**Job Synopsis**

This is a salaried full-time position with MCC Ontario (MCCO) Migration and Resettlement Program related to the Private Sponsorship of Refugees. (PSR).

The Associate will work within the refugee program to 1) support constituent groups (CGs) in the fulfillment of their roles and responsibilities related to the arrival, settlement, and integration of refugees, 2) facilitate the social inclusion of newcomers, 3) monitor and evaluate the settlement and integration of newcomers and 4) assist with administrative and other duties as required.

The position is based in the MCCO office in Kitchener and reports to the Migration and Resettlement Program Coordinator.
- MCC is a charitable organization that partners with churches and community organizations worldwide to walk with people who are disadvantaged. MCC supports activities that provide emergency assistance, reduce poverty, and promote healthy communities, sustainable living and alternatives to violence. As an internationally recognized NGO, MCC currently serves in more than 45 countries with over 475 partners, 1,000 staff and 40,000 volunteers._

**Qualifications**

Required
- Knowledge and experience with the Private Sponsorship of Refugees Program and current refugee issues
- Excellent oral and written communication skills required: reading, writing, and analytical skills equal to a college or university degree
- Experience and facility with public speaking on migration, resettlement, refugee and related issues
- Ability to relate well with a wide range of people and be comfortable in communication with the MCCO constituency
- Patience and constructive critical thinking and communication, especially when dealing with government and bureaucracy
- Diplomacy skills - able to say no to groups without alienating them (i.e., when presenting non-priority cases)
- Willingness to work with sensitivity within a diverse cultural and theological milieu required
- Ability to mediate challenges that arise amongst program participants from a variety of different faith-based, ethnocultural, and socio-economic backgrounds
- Experience in developing and implementing tools and resources for various audiences
- Familiarity with the settlement and integration process, settlement-providing agencies and relevant resources in the community of settlement.
- Ability to work independently, self-starter and prioritize a wide variety of tasks required
- Strong organizational skills with good attention to detail
- Free to travel domestically, especially within Ontario
- Ability to work non-standard hours required, including evenings and weekends
- Respect for and discretion in dealing with confidential material required
- Willing to work within and promote MCCO’s dismantling oppression goals
- Valid ‘G’ Ontario driver’s license
- Police vulnerable sector check (required upon hire)
- Legally able to work in Canada

Preferred
- Experience with Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Database an asset
- Fluency in one or more other languages such as Swahili, Arabic, Spanish, Tigrinya, Amharic

**Key Responsibilties**

**Supporting Constituent Groups**
- Provide pre-arrival orientation to all CGs and resource groups to ensure they understand their roles and responsibilities
- Provide the CG lead with information about the family's arrival
- Check in with all sponsoring groups throughout the year of sponsorship to document experience and glean any areas requiring follow-up
- In consultation with the CG lead connect with a selected number of newcomers once a year to document settlement experience and glean any areas requiring support/follow-up
- Manage the check-in tracking process and host monthly online check-ins with CGs across the province
- Manage and update the online Portal that houses the latest resources and announcements to ensure CGs are kept up-to-date
- Develop and implement training and networking opportunities for CGs that promote effective settlement and integration
- In collaboration with the Program Coordinator, develop project plans, work with the team to track indicators over time (from case management databases), and take the lead on developing appropriate reports

**Newcomer Engagement and Social Inclusion**
In collaboration with sponsoring groups, plan and implement the following:

- Engage newcomers and host activities that facilitate community engagement and social inclusion (i.e. Summer picnics)
- Engage newcomers in Advocacy as opportunities become available

**Monitoring and Evaluation of Settlement**
- Check in regularly with all sponsorship groups throughout the year of sponsorship to document experience and glean any areas requiring follow-up
