**Traffic Management Coordinator (Temporary - up to 8 months)**

**Engineering and Public Works Department**

**POSITION FUNCTION**

Perform traffic control administration for various construction sites and special events.

**KEY DUTIES**
- Plan, develop, formulate, and review traffic control plans, hazard/risk assessments and associated clerical tasks.
- Conduct field traffic management inspections.
- Plan traffic routing for all City related services, including construction projects and special events according to specifications, federal regulations and municipal policies; close roads or detour traffic; coordinate placement of barricades, cones and signs and other traffic control devices around job sites; ensure compliance with departmental policy and legislative requirements.
- Analyse and implement traffic data to define operating parameters.
- Create timelines, instructions and breakdowns for future projects.
- Liaise with public, other departments, contractors and the development community to coordinator constructions and road closures to minimize traffic disruption and congestion.
- Identify potential issues with traffic control set-up and offer resolutions; operate a vehicle to transport equipment and materials.
- Provide traffic control in emergency situations such as fire, floods, or oil spills on road; inform emergency services, transit companies and local radio stations of road closures.
- Work with City stakeholders to develop traffic control plans and maintain databases and mapping related to City operations and maintenance.
- Conduct site inspections to ensure standard traffic control plans and practices are followed by contractors and staff. Attend site meetings to discuss traffic control measures and provide guidance on containment.
- Minor repairs to traffic control devices such as signs and barriers; Perform pre and post trip vehicle inspections. Provide road closure information to administrative staff.
- Perform clerical and administrative tasks within the Civic Services Department, including maintaining databases and preparing business correspondence; Prepare priority lists, project status reports and project budgets.
- Perform related duties where qualified.

**INDEPENDENCE**
- Work is generated by construction activities or assigned by supervisor and reviewed upon completion.
- Issues such as major traffic disruption are discussed with supervisor.

**WORKING CONDITIONS**

**Formal Education, Training and Occupational Certification**:
High school graduation.

May be requested to substitute in a more senior position.
