**Salary**: $2345.14 to $3076.28 bi-weekly ($61,208 - $80,290 /year)
The Education Supports Sector provides policy direction, approves funding, administers programs, and builds system capacity that promotes an inclusive education system for children and students. All work is guided by Alberta Education's core values of respect, integrity, accountability and excellence.
Within the Education Supports Sector, the Learner Supports Branch provides supports for programs and services that impact the education of students. The branch includes the Low Incidence Supports and Services (LISS) unit whose main focus is to support school authorities to meet the needs of students with Low Incidence disabilities (blind/visually impaired, deaf/hard of hearing and complex communcators).
**Role Responsibilities**:
Reporting to LISS Operations Coordinator, this position functions within the parameters of applicable government and ministry legislation, regulations, policies, directives and procedures in order to administer programs and services that impact the educational access of children and students with low incidence disabilities.
As a core function of the role, the LISS Analyst conducts fundamental research, analysis and reporting to ensure that the LISS unit has access to the required data and resources to inform and execute program area activities and policy development. To fulfill the functions of the role, the LISS Analyst will have ongoing contact with ministry staff, cross-ministry staff, contracted team members and school authority personnel.
**Responsibilities**:
- Researches, collects, analyses, and evaluates data and information obtained from diverse sources, including statistical databases, legislation, policy documents, technical reports, and academic journals
- Conducts literature reviews and environmental scanning activities
- Uses quantitative and qualitative research methodologies to interpret findings
- Effectively communicates research findings tailored to meet the needs of a diverse group of stakeholders
- Creates and maintains processes for program or policy development
- Supports policy initiatives by assisting with the identification of potential impacts and implications of policy issues or initiatives on government programs or policies.
- Supports the development and implementation of program and policy evaluation activities
- Interprets research findings and data in order to exchange technical findings to others
- Drafts written reports to support analysis and communication of research findings
- Prepares briefing packages for senior management
- Responds to requests for information on policy, programs or legislation
- Provides the branch and sector leadership team with active support, including contributing to the development, implementation and evaluation of operational plans and the development and maintenance of a shared vision for the branch and sector that defines purpose, outcomes, results and measures in relation to Alberta Education's values and principles.
- Assists with contract-related data aggregation and analysis to inform unit decision-making
- Assists with the planning and implementation of in-person supports for students and school-based learning teams
- Provides the branch and sector leadership team with active support, including contributing to the development, implementation and evaluation of operational plans and the development and maintenance of a shared vision for the branch and sector that defines purpose, outcomes, results and measures in relation to Alberta Education's values and principles.
- Supports the completion of Contracted Services Management processes to assist with the approval and acquisition of resources required for unit initiatives.
- Undertakes contract timeline management and vendor invoice approvals.
- Completes vendor scans and solicits vendor quotes in accordance with applicable protocols.
