**Position Rationale**:
Reporting to the Foreman, the **Grader Operator** is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the self-propelled motor grader. The Grader Operator performs either rough or fine grade finishing, precisely spreading and mixing materials in order to dry and prep roads, construct road surfaces, to precise grade specifications, lay cold mix and/or shave and rip out old road surfaces.

**Position Accountabilities**:

- Operate heavy equipment (motor grader) in a safe and appropriate manner and maintain proper awareness of one’s surroundings while operating Grader on public roadways.
- Clean and lubricate equipment and refill equipment tank.
- Operate computer-controlled equipment.
- Conduct pre-operational checks on equipment.
- Secure special attachments to equipment.
- Perform routine cleaning, daily maintenance, and safety checks on equipment.
- Drive grader in a successive pass over working area, observing reference stakes or hand signals of other workers, to level the surface to the specified grade.
- Feel levers and listen to equipment sounds to determine the depth of the cut, finish grade base surface preparation within half an inch.

**Technical Knowledge**:

- Knowledge of grader and other heavy equipment.
- Knowledge of issues involving ground disturbance.
- Understanding of grades and interpreting roadway plans and drawings.
- Knowledge of road construction materials, road construction processes and industry requirements.
- Understanding of computerized controls and electronics.

**Working Environment/Conditions**:

- Outdoor setting, include inclement weather.
- Exposure to heat, humidity, dust, and asphalt.
- Physically demanding, must be capable of lifting 40 lbs. repetitively on a regular basis.
- Must comply with company’s drug and alcohol testing requirements.

**Safety**:

- Actively engage in the company’s culture of Safety Excellence.
- Engage management on an ongoing basis regarding safety activities and successes.

**What you will bring for Qualifications and Experience**:

- High School Diploma or G.E.D. preferred.
- Class 5 Driver’s License; clean Driver’s Abstract.
- Minimum 3 - 5 years’ experience within the road construction industry.
- Minimum 2 -3 years’ experience operating a Grader is required, GPS knowledge is an asset.
- Relevant Oilfield Certification/Safety tickets would be an asset.
