Calgary, Canada The Calgary John Howard Society Full time

**Position: Full-time, Adult Housing Reintegration Program (AHRP) Caseworker**

**The Agency**

The Calgary John Howard Society (CJHS) is a charity that reduces crime and makes Calgary communities safer by helping youth and adults make positive changes and move away from criminal behaviour. We do this by addressing the root causes of crime through housing, education, employment programs and support so that individuals have alternatives to breaking the law. CJHS is committed to restorative justice and an organizational environment that recognizes the dignity and worth of each person. CJHS values diversity and inclusion and welcomes qualified applicants from all walks of life.

**The Program**

The Adult Housing Reintegration Program (AHRP) provides housing and intensive supports to individuals above the age of 18 who are chronically homeless; have repeat involvement with the justice system; and are frequent users of emergency, health, correctional and shelter services. Upon entry to the program and/or release from jail we work to house the individual as quickly as possible and continue with case management support working towards successful reintegration into the community. The AHRP team consists of 4 AHRP Caseworkers, an Occupational Therapist, Housing Liaison and Program Manager.

**The Position**

The AHRP Community Caseworker will work in an integrated and collaborative way with the AHRP Team, wider CJHS Team, and the community to ensure clients on their caseload obtain housing, remain housed, get connected to appropriate services, and successfully reintegrate into the community. This includes supporting the client to connect with community services including employment and education; supporting their attendance at relevant appointments; and assisting with activities of daily living, recreation, and leisure opportunities.

Reporting to the Community Reintegration Program Manager this individual will practice client-centered case management; build supportive community relationships; complete casework documentation; do data collection; and report outcomes. This role works in a hybrid fashion that combines onsite and mobile work to meet the needs of the program and support the staff and program participants at various locations throughout Calgary. As such, this position requires a valid license and vehicle.

**The scope of employment may include**:

- Sitting at a desk for multiple consecutive hours to complete administrative tasks and file reviews.
- Transporting clients to appointments and performing other duties in your personal vehicle - with compensation for mileage.
- Arranging and/or Assisting with move-in and out, this can require lifting up to 50 lb
- Utilizing crisis intervention strategies to de-escalate potentially violent or high-risk situations
- Exposure to biohazardous materials
- Providing guidance and strategies to support the clients dealing with direct and/or vicarious trauma
- Working in collaboration with the housing case management team to develop appropriate supports and intervention strategies for clients

**Experience and Education**

The successful AHRP Community Caseworker will have a post-secondary education in a relevant discipline (i.e., human services, social work, etc.) and will have experience working with the target population, preferably with 2 years of experience in Housing First Case Management. Knowledge and experience of corrections is an asset. Brain Story Certification is considered an asset.

- 3 weeks of accrued annual vacation.
- A comprehensive group benefits plan that includes coverage for health, dental, life, and disability insurance.
- Optional group investment (RRSP) saving program participation with employer-paid contributions.
- copies of their vehicle registration, driver’s abstract, driver's license, $1 million liability insurance, and an assurance of vehicle safety;
- a Police Information Check (PIC); and
