**Job purpose**

Yard Inspector will be primarily responsible for inspecting the materials that come in the yard and ensuring safe and organized yard traffic. This includes, directing traffic, assisting incoming customers with their loads and cleaning the work area.

Torch Cutter is responsible for cutting the oversized scrap metal, organizing and cleaning the work area.

**Duties and responsibilities**
- Inspecting the materials that come in the yard and identifying materials for processing
- Responsible for the traffic flow of the trucks, loaders, material handlers in and out of the yard
- Constantly communicating with the team in organizing the yard flow via two-way radio
- Thoroughly identifying that all the materials for shredding are free of flammables and any other prohibited items for shredding
- Assisting customers with unloading their scrap materials when needed
- Ensuring all safety checks are adhered to by customers, truck drivers and equipment operators
- Cleaning and organizing the work area/ areas of the yard to stage the loads
- Secondary to all above duties is torch cutting. Whenever possible
- Cutting oversized pieces of scrap metal

**Qualifications**
- At least 2 years’ experience working in scrap yards, steel yards, recycling yards
- Working knowledge of identifying various types of metals
- Working knowledge of industry safety standards
- Demonstrated excellent verbal English communication abilities
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds
- High regard for organization and the ability to strategize
- Comfortable to work in an outdoor environment that is physically demanding and exposed to extreme weather conditions
- Able to work professionally, respectfully with positive attitude and high level of personal integrity at all times
- Strong work ethic and ability to complete work in a timely manner
- Must be able to work with little supervision.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
- Ideally possess at least a Class 5 driver’s license
- Demonstrate ability to work professionally, respectfully with positive attitude in a fast-paced working environment
- High level of personal integrity
- Strong work ethic and ability to complete work in a timely manner
- Good time management skills and ability to prioritize work
- Must be able to work with little supervision; must be self-directed
- Training to be provided for:

- Forklift operation
- Skid-Steer operation
- Torch Cutter

**Working conditions**
- Regular Working hours: Mondays to Fridays, 8:00am to 4:30pm
- Overtime: frequent, to assist customers until they finish unloading when required
- Exposure to loud noise and dusty environment
- Will be required to work outdoors in all weather conditions (year-round)
- Exposure to heat and chemicals used in torches
- Wearing Respiratory Protection is part of the job (torching)
- Long hours of standing/sitting
- **Regular and punctual attendance is critical for this position
