**Position Description Summary**:
This position is responsible for safely, effectively, and efficiently tuning Dies. The position of Die Tuner directly reports to the Tool & Die Manager. **The work schedule for this role will be a steady afternoon shift, from 3:00 pm - 12:00 am.** This position is required to drive results that contribute to Vision Dominion’s success in the following key business areas: Safety, Quality, and Delivery.
**Position Requirements**:
- College diploma and/or Tool and Die Certificate, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Knowledge of Plastic Extrusion process, specifically rigid PVC and experience in this industry is a bonus.
- Ability to study blueprints, sketches, models, or specifications to plan sequences of operations for fabricating tools, dies, or assemblies.
- Mechanical — Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance. Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principals involved in production of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models.

**Physical/Working Conditions**:
This position requires the employee to work under schedule-bound conditions in a manufacturing environment.
**Working Hours**:
The facility works on a schedule of an eight (8) hour rotating shift format, 7 days per week and rotates on a 6-week basis. **Employees in this position will be required to work a 9-hour shift for 5 days per week at a steady afternoon shift (3:00 pm - 12:00 am). **Given the nature of our business and due to customer needs, alternate hours may be required. The Company reserves the right to alter the work schedule and/or implement any other shift format that may be necessary to meet production and/or job demands. These alterations may include reducing shifts and/or schedules, implementing a rotating/fixed 12-hour continental shift formal or a rotating/fixed 8-hour shift. In the event that changes to the shift schedule are necessary, the company will attempt to notify you in advance.
**Job-specific tasks**:
- Ensure all material is prepared for tuning (i.e. assembly and polishing of Extrusion Dies, Calibration Vacuums & Jig Plates).
- Review sample and “running” condition from Die Tester and make required adjustments to Die.
- Completion of “shot” paperwork. Record and track on drawing any work required.
- Troubleshoot the tooling to ensure that the requirements are met for Quality and Run Rates.
- File, grind, shim, and adjust different parts to properly fit them together.
- Fit and assemble parts to make, repair, or modify dies, jigs, gauges, and tools, using machine tools and hand tools.
- Inspect finished dies for smoothness, contour conformity, and defects.
- Smooth and polish flat and contoured surfaces of parts or tools, using scrapers, abrasive stones, files, emery cloths, or power grinders.
- Lift, position, and secure machined parts on surface plates or worktables, using hoists, vises, v-blocks, or angle plates.
- Gauges or inspection fixtures — Dial indicators; Optical flats; Telescoping gauges; Thread ring gauges.
- Grinding machines — Profile grinders; Rotary surface grinders; Surface grinders.
- Power grinders — Bench grinders; Die grinders; Disc grinders; Grinding wheels.
- Welders — Arc welders; Portable welders; Stick welders; TIG Welders.
- Workshop presses — Arbor presses; Die spotting presses; Drill presses.
- Ensure that the proper Quality Control tests are conducted.
- Ensure to be present for the initial production run to ensure that the required dimensions are achieved as per the master sample.
- Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods.
- Perform other duties as assigned to satisfaction of the Tool and Die Supervisor and/or Tool Room Manager.
