**The Opportunity**
The Legal, Legislative and Records Services Department is currently recruiting a Legislative Officer to join their team for a term opportunity.
Reporting to the Deputy City Clerk, Legislative Officer facilitates the flow of information to Council and Council Committees. The role also prepares agendas, agenda packages, notices, and ensures proper meeting arrangements have been made.
The Legislative Officer also attends and take minutes of Council meetings and certain Committee meetings; following Council meetings, the Legislative Officer will process the outcomes of meetings including the preparation of minutes, action lists, decisions, bylaws, policies, and information requests.
The Legislative Officer also assists with processing of Requests to Access Information under the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act.
**Qualifications**
- 2-year post-secondary education/certificate in office administration, legal assistant or related field or equivalent certificate program from an approved business college or university.
- 5 years of progressively responsible and diversified relevant experience working in a confidential capacity at a senior or executive support level, or equivalent legislative experience in an executive administrative role, or legal assistant role.
- A working knowledge of the Municipal Government Act, Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act, the City’s Procedure Bylaw, and Robert’s Rules of Order is required.
- Experience utilizing agenda management software is preferred.
- The ability to deal with competing priorities in a fast-paced politically sensitive environment.
- Highly developed written, verbal, listening, editing and time management skills and excellent attention to detail.
- The ability to synthesize information (what is being said) into a coherent, concise, and accurate summary.
- Strong administrative and meeting management skills, including a high degree of proficiency in minute-taking and working knowledge of parliamentary procedures.
- Strong computer skills and proficiency with MS Office Suite.
**Hours of Work**
We offer a compressed work schedule of 72 hours bi-weekly. Primarily Monday to Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. with a regular day off (RDO) every two weeks.
Applicants must be able to work flexible hours (approximately 3 - 5 evenings per month for which a modified schedule or time-in-lieu will be provided).
**Compensation**
$72,373-$89,075 per annum. In addition, the City of St. Albert offers a comprehensive benefit package.
