The Diabetes Patient Educator reports to the Clinical Service Manager.
Accountabilities:
- Collaborate with registered dietitians to teach on all aspects of diabetes management, including insulin pump therapy, to patients and their families
**Qualifications**
- Current registration, and in good standing, with the College of Nurses of Ontario
- Bachelor's degree (or in progress)
- Certified diabetes educator certificate required
- Minimum of one year recent experience with complex diabetes preferred
- A minimum of five years recent experience with diabetes preferred
- Insulin pump certification preferred
- Current BCLS required
- Experience teaching adults/groups in an ambulatory care or community setting preferred
- Excellent interpersonal skills required
- Excellent organizational skills, time management skills, problem-solving and conflict resolution skills required
- Excellent critical thinking skills required
- Must be professional and self-directed
- Interest in and knowledge of current diabetes management
- Proven good attendance and work record required
- Ability to be flexible with schedule in order to meet the needs of the clients is required

**Additional Information**
DURATION: Approximately three (3) months or until the previous incumbent returns.
