**About the Role**:
Reporting to the Director of Congregate Housing, the Manager of Edith Mac Men’s Emergency Shelter is responsible for providing leadership and oversight to staff at an emergency shelter for Men experiencing homelessness in the region of Waterloo.

The individual’s main responsibilities include hiring, motivating, and supporting staff/client’s wellbeing, establishing, reviewing, and maintaining the program’s service delivery outcomes, and encouraging positive change/innovation in their teams. They will also be a resource in their ability to bridge community partnerships and have an aptitude in diverting clients experiencing mental health challenges from traditional justice outcomes.

They will be responsible for managing a large team of professionals (Shelter workers, Case Managers, Relief Workers, etc.) which includes a Supervisory Team in a 24/7 environment. The individual will ensure that strategic goals established are translated into practical action and that relationships are maximized between clients, employees, and community partners.

**Duties and Responsibilities**:

- Lead the day-to-day operations of the shelter which includes staff recruitment, orientation, development, performance management, and training
- Act as liaison among staff and other stakeholders to ensure that goals are achieved, processes are improved, and resolutions are provided
- Manage supervisors who will ensure that staff follow organizational policies and procedures (Health and Safety, IPAC, CA), participate in external committees, and liaise with regional service providers as necessary
- Ability to provide 24/7 on-call support at designated and pre-determined times throughout the year
- Support diverting clients experiencing mental health challenges from traditional justice outcomes
- Demonstrated ability to problem solve and develop and suggest new perspectives and generate helpful insights into problems, address issues, avert conflict, empower employees, prevent escalation of conflict between employees
- Through an EDI focused lens demonstrates the ability to create an inclusive workplace where everyone feels welcome
- Regularly monitor and improve service delivery targets, workloads, and outcomes
- Actively be involved in budgeting, program develop, improvement and evaluation
- Demonstrated and proven track record creating clear and vivid plans to accomplish shared objectives.
- Experience with researching, evaluating and implementing new evidence based best practice and processes when necessary
- Responsible for client/resident safety
- Demonstrate a strong commitment to quality care and service delivery based on SHIP’s Vision, Mission, and Values
- Ensure appropriate records are kept and make sure that statistical information is maintained as per agency standards
- Adhere to the agency Health & Safety Program and the Client Safety Framework in the promotion of client safety
- Perform additional duties as required/delegated

**Qualifications**:

- Post-secondary education in Social Work, Social Services, Health Services, or equivalent
- 3+ years Supervising and/or Managing employees
- 8+ years Supporting clients experiencing homelessness
- Demonstrated experience in project management, communication, leadership, and crisis management
- Knowledge and commitment to the values of psychosocial rehabilitation and recovery oriented practices
- Knowledge of psychiatric symptomology, medication, and suicide assessment and intervention
- Expertise in collaboration with healthcare services
- Experience and sensitivity in dealing with members of different cultural and racial backgrounds, including visible and invisible dimensions of diversity
- Excellent verbal/written communication and interpersonal skills
- Strong analytical and organizational skills
- Demonstrated ability to work without direct supervision in a team environment
- Proficient in MS Suite (Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook)
- A vehicle, valid driver’s license, and adequate insurance coverage
- Valid Certification in First Aid & CPR
- Training in ASIST and CPI
- Vulnerable Screening Level 3

**Working Conditions and Physical Requirements**:

- Day shifts (Monday - Friday) with the ability to work excess/overtime hours where required
- Able to work well with internal and external clients
- Able to drive, walk (site locations) regularly
- Able to sit for prolonged periods of time
- Able to answer and communicate telephone calls and general computer use
- Computer screen use (multiple screens if applicable) for prolonged periods of time
- Able to lift up to 20lbs (product, documents, etc.)
- Travel by vehicle to community sites for client support as required
