- As the senior Theatre and Stagecraft Technician, co-ordinates and ensures the provision of service, both technical and instructional, by self and by other Theatre and Stagecraft Technicians, to students and faculty members in the Stagecraft and Event Technology (SET), Music (MUSC) and Theatre (THEA) programs; liaises with users of the Performing Arts facilities at Douglas College, both internal and external; provides exceptional client-centred service on a consistent basis to all stakeholder groups.**Responsibilities**

**1. Provides supervision and coordination of Technical Theatre staff in meeting the needs of all external and internal users of the Performing Arts facilities.**
- a. creates and co-ordinates Theatre Technician schedules to ensure appropriate staffing of Muir theatre in support of THEA program productions, MUSC department events and classes, College-wide events, and external users’ bookings;
b. maintains the College-wide booking calendar for the Muir, and liaises throughout the College as needed to respond to requests for internal and external bookings;
c. communicates with all users of the Muir to identify appropriately, co-ordinate, and execute technical aspects of bookings and productions;
d. submits for prior approval by the Director of Performing and Fine Arts any requested or required over-time staff schedules;
e. in consultation with the Director of Performing and Fine Arts, leads the hiring of new ongoing Theatre and Stagecraft Technicians, as needed (Job No. 470.01);
f. oversees the co-ordination of Theatre and Stagecraft Technician annual vacation requests, and ensures that auxiliary Theatre Technicians are scheduled to cover for vacation leaves, when needed;
g. maintains a list of qualified auxiliary Theatre and Stagecraft Technicians for occasional/on-call shifts,
as needed, and notifies the Director of Performing and Fine Arts and Human Resources Advisor of the need to hire additional auxiliary Theatre and Stagecraft Technicians;
h. evaluates Theatre and Stagecraft Technician staff;
i. is responsible for recommending to the Director of Performing and Fine Arts any professional development opportunities that Theatre and Stagecraft Technicians may from time to time require in order to remain current with upgrades in technology and/or equipment;
j. monitors the state of resources and facilities associated with the College theatre spaces and SET shop, and recommends (via such processes as FF&E and/or Innovative Projects) any necessary maintenance, equipment and/or technology upgrades or replacement.
- **2. Provides instructional support to the**
**SET**
**program.**
- a. advises students, staff and faculty with respect to props, lighting, sound, set construction, stage management, house management, etc.;
b. in consultation with faculty members, invigilates and marks practical exams; assists with the development and revision of exams;
c. supervises and assists students and staff in building, load in and strike of productions;
d. demonstrates to and assists students, staff and faculty with proper machinery, tool and computer use for program assignments;
e. ensures adequate inventory of supplies needed for courses and production;
f. participates in production meetings and, when requested, helps student’s interpret what guest designers/directors are requesting;
g. supervises and enforces safety procedures of students, staff and faculty within the SET facilities and instructs all users in safety procedures;
h. provides supervision for SET and Theatre students during run of productions;
i. provides informal instruction to students with respect to technical aspects of class assignments in a lab (studio) setting; and
j. in consultation with faculty members, sets up equipment and materials for classes and labs, ensuring removal and storage after use.

- a. maintains a variety of equipment (lighting, sound, rigging and fly gallery, shop tools and equipment);
b. sets up and operates all theatre equipment for internal and external bookings, including audio, lighting, and video systems;
c. supervises students to ensure safety operating equipment in the Performing Arts facilities;
d. performs minor maintenance and repairs for Theatre stage area (walls, seats, carpet, painting, etc.);
e. cleans stage, booth and shop areas, maintains and co-ordinates
