**Job Description**:
Reporting to the Regional Manager Risk and Accreditation, this position supports all matters related to risk identification, management and mitigation; litigation (patient, staff and property matters), and supporting corporate and program (Stroke, Pharmacy, Laboratory and Cardiac) Accreditation Canada surveys throughout multiple hospitals.
The position works across multiple organizations and with external parties (insurance companies, legal firms, other hospitals, vendors, etc.). This role works closely with leaders including the Senior Leadership Team and Medical Leadership, particularly to ensure compliance with governance standards, and preparing for litigation.
**Risk Management**: This position is responsible for identifying, assessing, mitigating and monitoring risks (clinical and non clinical) across multiple hospitals.
**Litigation**: This position is responsible for supporting litigation matters across multiple hospitals including receiving all Statement of Claims, Warrants and Subpoenas, as well as preparing staff for legal proceedings including court trials.
**Accreditation**: This position is responsible for supporting compliance to nationally produced standards at multiple hospitals, as well as preparing staff and physicians for the prestigious on-site survey which occurs every four years.
**Education**:
Minimum Undergraduate degree
Quality Management Certificate - preferred
Certified Risk Manager (CRM) - preferred
**Experience**:
Must have supported one Accreditation survey in an acute healthcare setting
Minimum of five years experience in an acute care healthcare setting
Minimum of five years working with acute healthcare legal and insurance claims
Minimum of three years identifying and managing risk in an acute healthcare setting
Minimum of three years of demonstrated investigation and negotiation skills
Minimum of three years of working knowledge of risk management, risk mitigation, privacy, legislation, standard of care and best practice guidelines
Minimum of five years of experience making independent decisions, creating contingency plans, developing action plans, etc.
Minimum of five years of proven assessment, critical thinking and problem solving skills.
**Competencies**:
- Knowledge of Accreditation Canada standards and Required Organizational Practices
- Knowledge of current legislation of Governing Health Care Facilities (e.g. Public Hospital Act, Mental Health Act, Quality of Care Information Protection Act, and the Coroners’ Act, ECFAA, FIPPA)
- Knowledge of Health Law and healthcare insurance policies
- Ability to engage stakeholders at all levels of the organization
- Training in risk management and mitigation, project management methodology and lean methodology
- Working knowledge of patient incident reporting systems including a consistent incident follow up system
- Strong training and presentation skills
- Demonstrated experience working in fast paced department adjusting to mandating changes
- Proficient at Microsoft word, excel and power point
