**Did you know?**
The International Economic Analysis Department (INT) provides high-quality economic analysis, projections and research focusing on the implications of international developments on Canada and the Bank’s monetary policy function. The department also provides analysis and policy advice on issues that arise in global economic forums. INT has seven divisions, including the United States (USD).

USD is responsible for producing the near-term outlook for US real economic activity and inflation, assessing US fiscal and monetary policy developments and conducting research.

**What you will do**
As Principal Economist, you work under the direction of the Director of the division, substituting for them as required. You are responsible for initiating, leading and conducting analysis on various economic and policy issues, and coordinating the response to questions and requests from senior management. You participate in the management of the division, helping the Director ensure that work plan objectives are met. Moreover, you play a key leadership role in coaching and collaborating with other economists in the department, helping contribute to an engaging, collaborative and exciting work environment.

Particular responsibilities will include:

- Supervising the preparation and communication of short-term forecasts for the US economy
- Supporting the production of the Monetary Policy Report

**What you need to succeed**
You have:

- A solid understanding of macroeconomics combined with strong problem-solving skills, including the ability to analyze complex economic and financial problems
- Capacity to lead and conduct high-quality economic analysis
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Experience working with statistical programming software, such as EViews, MATLAB, Stata or R
- Experience in coaching junior staff, including the ability to improve the clarity and analytic content of their work
- Ability to manage time and priorities effectively and ensure project completion under tight deadlines
- Experience working collaboratively with others within and across teams
- A commitment to learning and self-development

**Nice-to-have**
- good knowledge of monetary policy issues
- experience using econometric skills to develop and maintain short
- and long-term forecasting tools
- experience making presentations to senior management
- knowledge of US data sources and economy

**Your education and experience**
- a master’s degree in economics or finance and minimum five years of relevant work experience relating to macroeconomic analysis

or
- a PhD degree in economics or finance with a minimum of two years of recent relevant experience relating to macroeconomic analysis

or
- an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered

**What you need to know**
- Language requirement: English and French essential (bilingual) with a minimum starting level of intermediate (level 3) in second official language. Training may be provided to help reach the required level of functional (level 4) in second official language.
- Priority will be given to Canadian citizens and permanent residents
- Security level required: Be eligible to obtain Reliability
