Reporting to the Operations Supervisor, this position is responsible for the safe and efficient day-to-day operations in the drum building at our Toronto facility. This is a represented position under the Teamsters Local Union 938. This position will cover an afternoon shift in an industrial setting that currently operates 16 hours per day, 5 days per week. Successful applicant may be requested to work additional hours before or after regular hours to meet customer requirements.
**Key Responsibilities**:
Active participant in GFL’s, Health & Safety Program.
Always work safely by adhering to company policies, rules, and procedures.
Comply with Corporate and Regulatory policies.
Build and maintain a professional report with customers and drivers.
Complete shift and equipment checklists.
Complete daily housekeeping duties in designated circuit.
Attend safety meetings, identify any safety concerns to supervisor, report all incidents and assist in investigations.
Material handling such as loading and unloading van trailers and segregating pallets according to work orders WO and waste class codes.
Responsible for sampling drums and or containers received.
Identifying damages and report shortages or quality deficiencies.
Identify, classify, segregate, and process dangerous goods.
Conduct inventory counts, label, and prepare containers for shipment.
Ensure that the required documentation is legible, accurate and completed promptly.
Effectively participate as a team member in the operation of the facility.
Willingness to receive cross training in other departments.
Maintain safe and clean equipment and work areas with good housekeeping practices.
Perform other operational duties as assigned.
**Knowledge, Skills & Competencies**:
High School Diploma.
Previous experience working in an industrial setting is preferred.
Basic chemical knowledge.
Familiar with environmental regulations (CEPA, Ontario Reg. 347/558).
Certification in Transportation of Dangerous Goods, Workplace Hazardous Materials Information Systems, First Aid, and Hydrogen Sulfide would be an asset.
Proven experience as forklift operator.
Basic mechanical aptitude is an asset.
Class G Driver’s License.
Able to work under time constraints in an often-fast paced environment (multi-Tasking).
Ability to communicate thoughts and ideas effectively, both written and verbally in English.
Effective organizational and interpersonal skills are required.
Must be legally eligible to work in Canada.
This is a safety sensitive position. Offers of employment are conditional upon successful completion of required pre-employment medical, physical, drug and alcohol testing.
This position is primarily completed indoors with certain aspects of work that are in an outdoor setting in the facility yard.
This position will require you to retrieve samples from designated work areas within the facility with exposure to environmental conditions that may include hot, cold, dirt, dust, wet or noise.
You must be able to work independently and as part of a larger team environment.
