The James Bay Market is situated at the corner of Menzies and Superior and operates every Saturday from May 4 to October 5 from 9 am to 3 pm and is composed of produce, craft, and food vendors. It features 3 sets of live music, a market-operated coffee kiosk and a small information area. Special themed events are staged throughout the market season.

The contract runs from April 27 to October 12, 2024 (25 weeks) with a value of $175 to be paid in bi-weekly increments.

This contractposition is a key part of our Market’s success and includes reporting to the James Bay Market (JBM) Board Liaison and working directly with the Market Manager to make sure the Market is ready to greet our customers by 8:45am. Most of our equipment is stored onsite in a 10-foot container. Equipment and supplies not used weekly are stored offsite in a storage shed at 464 Superior. On-site training will be provided.

**Qualifications**:

- Work independently and as part of a team with our Market Manager and volunteers.
- Available every Saturday that the Market runs.
- Self-motivated and quick thinking.
- Able to work under pressure while showing respect for our Market and vendors’ equipment.
- Able to lift 50 lbs.
- Must be personable and like people.
- Must have access to a vehicle.

**Tasks**:

- Before May 4th, help relocate and organize essential market equipment from the storage shed at 464 Superior to our onsite storage container.
- October 5-11: with assistance from the Market Board, relocate the contents of the onsite container to the offsite storage shed. Organize equipment and arrange the shed neatly so the Dickens Fair equipment, including the large sign, is easily accessible for their December 7 event. A list of equipment for the Dickens Fair and the James Bay Market will be provided.
- Assist the Market Manager with site preparation and layout of the vendor spots (i.e., locating and measuring the vendor markers).
- Transport Market equipment and supplies to and from the onsite container and Market shed.
- Equipment consists of approximately:

- 6 10x10’ tents
- 2 4x4’ tents
- 1 generator & 2 filled gas cans
- Music & sound equipment
- 8 folded tables, 40 chairs
- 10 - 12 plastic totes and 6 garbage cans, some loose items.
- 6 signboards, banners, etc.
- Set up the Market-owned tents and any additional tents required, as indicated on the site map.
- Work with the Market Manager to set up the music, coffee and information kiosks, including transporting 2 large full water jugs.
- Assist our vendors where necessary. Note: a few vendors require assistance setting up their tents. No display work or unloading of individual boxes is required.
- Complete Market set-up, as per the weekly Market site map, so the site is ready for our customers by 8:45 am.
- Secure the site's perimeter with ropes, etc., prior to 9 am.
- Remain on site until 9:15 am.
- Return to the Market site by 2:45 pm. Once the Market closes at 3 pm, start the take-down of the Market equipment and supplies and return all items to the onsite container or the market shed, if required. This is the reverse of what happens in the morning.
- Dispose of the Market garbage.
- It is essential that you work closely with the Market Manager to ensure the Market is ready and our vendors are happy.

**Extra Tasks**
- Remove the large advertising sign at the Market site on May 4th at or before 7 am and store it in the Market shed.
- On occasion, extra market tents are rented by individuals. They are charged a $15 rental fee and this is paid to the set-up person. Payment arrangements are made with our Treasurer.
- You will be required to fill the 2 large water jugs either at your home or the offsite Market shed.
- You will be required to fill 1 gas can per week and will be reimbursed.
