**JOB SUMMARY**

**DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES**
- Play a leadership role in maintaining a warm, welcoming, respectful, and non-judgmental environment, while ensuring the support and security of staff, volunteers, participants.
- Ensure the safe and sustainable operations and functions of the Shelter while maintaining and upholding a participant-centered approach.
- Assist the Manager with recruitment, orientation, training, retention, evaluations, and performance management of the Shelter unionized Staff.
- Assist the Manager with daily operations and schedule of the Shelter program, directly supervising Shelter staff and volunteers.
- Be available for on-call duty, for staff or to respond to any emergencies that can affect the program.
- Maintain a strong understanding of the Collective Agreement and how it functions for the Shelter staff.
- Establish and proactively maintain healthy, collaborative, constructive, and supportive working relationships with all Shelter staff.
- Provide insight, support, and/or follow-up with staff and/or participants in the case of critical incidents, bad date reports, missing persons or other serious situations, as required.
- Support the shelter staff with participant management, ban recommendations, and participant check-ins.
- Collaboratively participate in the Labour Management Committee when needed, and ensure follow-up to any actions resulting from the Joint Health & Safety Committee meetings.
- Build and maintain the monthly schedule, approve vacation requests, respond to shift coverage, and arrange any emergency scheduling changes as needed.
- Complete all administrative tasks for the program including timesheet approvals, payroll inquiries, and program petty cash and expenses.
- Conduct in-house maintenance and collaborate with the Workplace & Facilities Manager to ensure maintenance of equipment, furniture, and facilities of the Shelter space as well as procurement of supplies and physical donations.
- Compile, analyze, and submit statistics and reports related to Shelter services, for internal program development/assessment purposes and to relevant funders.
- Provide staff with information regarding relevant and appropriate community services and supports for participants.
- Provide relevant and appropriate advocacy and support to participants who access WISH while maintaining Shelter policies and Codes of Conduct, including as it pertains to ban recommendations and re-integration.
- Establish and maintain healthy, collaborative, constructive, supportive and proactive working relationships with the other WISH program coordinators in ensuring WISH’s consistent wrap-around supports to participants.
- Support the Manager in preparing agendas, and co-chairing regular monthly Shelter staff meetings and represents the Shelter program at regular and ad hoc planning/programming meetings.
- Other relevant duties as assigned.

**QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS**
- Minimum 2-3 years’ experience working in front line social service delivery is required.
- Direct managerial and supervisory experience of a group of front-line social service staff (preferably unionized) is an asset.
- Demonstrated leadership skills, budget management, and program management abilities.
- Post-secondary education or training in social service work, counseling, or related social sciences is an asset.
- Proven management experience in a unionized environment, social services and/or the DTES is a considerable asset.
- Competency in basic handiwork and building maintenance skills are strong assets.
- Flexibility required for schedule and hours, must be flexible in responding to emergencies, including after hours, via phone or in person.
- Alignment with the WISH mission, vision, and core values.
- A strong feminist analysis of violence against women and gender-diverse folks with an understanding of power and its intersection with gender, race, culture, class, ability, religion, sexual orientation, ethnicity, and age.
- Knowledge of the Downtown Eastside supports and services, proven ability to navigate the social welfare, public health, and justice systems, particularly in the areas of poverty reduction, housing, emergency medical care, detox and addictions services, and counseling.
- An understanding of the inherent issues that WISH participants face on a daily basis.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently while maintaining inclusive and collaborative relationships with the rest of the WISH team.
- Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, including strong computer literacy in Microsoft 365 (Word, Excel, Sharepoint, Outlook, etc.) and internal communications tools such as Slack are essential.
- Excellent interpersonal skills (de-briefing, active listening, conflict resolution, de-escalation, problem solving, supportive) is essential.
