**Position Summary**
The Ottawa BlackJacks are seeking a dynamic and experienced Director of Communications and Marketing
to lead our brand strategy. In this pivotal role, you will serve as the Brand Guardian, overseeing a team of
content creators and collaborating with various departments to create an engaging game day atmosphere
and impactful marketing initiatives. Key responsibilities include developing seasonal content plans,
managing digital communication channels, writing press materials, and ensuring sponsorship fulfillment.
**Responsibilities (Including, but not limited to):
- Uphold and promote the integrity of the brand across all platforms.
- Manage the Coordinator of Digital Content and oversee digital strategy and execution to
enhance our online presence.
- Supervise contracted content creators, ensuring high-quality deliverables.
- Collaborate with the Game Day Experience Manager to craft an engaging and memorable
atmosphere on game days.
- Strategically outline and organize seasonal content plan for the entire year.
- Plan and implement diverse marketing, communication, and social media strategies.
- Write and translate player biographies, press releases, and other essential written materials.
- Write scripts for various team events, including PA Announcer and host scripts on game day.
- Collaborate with the Coordinator of Digital Content to oversee the BlackJacks Mailchimp
account, including promotional newsletters and the BlackJacks Monthly Insider.
- Facilitate creative discussions for merchandise and marketing materials design.
- Work with the Coordinator of Digital Content to ensure the website is accurate and up-to-date.
- Send targeted marketing text messages through the Laylo platform.
- Monitor and meet sponsorship requirements and commitments.
- Represent the Ottawa BlackJacks in the community, building strong relationships and promoting
brand values.
- Participate in BlackJacks events throughout Ottawa and Gatineau to strengthen community ties.
- Other duties as assigned.
**Qualifications / Required skills**:
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in communications and marketing, preferably in sports,
entertainment, or a related industry.
- Proven track record of managing content creators and developing successful marketing
strategies.
- Strong communications and interpersonal skills.
- Is creative, strategic, innovative, well-organized, excels at time management, and sees the big
- picture while ensuring no detail is overlooked.
- Is a positive, upbeat person who takes on challenges with a “find a way” mindset, brings the
- ability to be flexible and thrives in a collaborative environment.
- Excels at a fast pace and isn’t fazed by pressure situations.
- Ability to manage budgets and coordinate multiple activities simultaneously.
- Knowledge of the CEBL and the Ottawa BlackJacks.
- Willingness to attend events and work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as
required.
- Bilingual, fluent in English and French.
- Previous experience using Photoshop is an asset.
- Previous experience using Mailchimp is an asset.
- Understanding of the game of basketball is an asset.
**Availability**:
The professional sports environment requires non-traditional event hours in addition to normal
corporate hours. In-person work is required. Must be available for all BlackJacks home games at the
Arena at TD Place.
