To empower Edmonton's newcomer and immigrant youth by fostering their active involvement in civic and community initiatives, nurturing confidence, and enhancing leadership abilities. While primarily focusing on the LEAP program, we strive for collaborative efforts across the department to provide comprehensive support to individuals and their families whenever feasible.

**the opportunity**
- Build strong connections with service providers, ethnic community associations, and other stakeholders, fostering a network of support for the program and youth mentoring initiatives.
- Develop resource materials allows the individual to create valuable content that supports mentors, mentees, and the overall program, contributing to its effectiveness and growth.
- Recruit, select, and match mentors and mentees from various ethnic communities enables the individual to work with diverse groups, celebrating cultural richness and promoting cross-cultural understanding.
- Organize and facilitate training sessions and mentoring activities for mentors and mentees offer chances to enhance leadership and coaching skills while fostering a positive learning environment.
- Provide ongoing support for mentors and mentees enables the individual to foster meaningful relationships and ensure the success of the mentoring process.
- Assist mentors and mentees with action plans presents opportunities to guide personal development and goal-setting.
- Collect evaluation forms and assessing feedback allows the individual to continuously improve the program based on participant experiences.
- Develop and revise program plans and facilitation guides to empower individuals to shape the program's direction, tailoring it to the unique strengths and needs of the participants.
- Implement facilitation guides and program plans to motivate participants towards community service, fosters a sense of social responsibility and advocacy for community engagement.

**what it takes**

While all backgrounds will be considered, the most helpful history will include lived experience, knowledge, training and education in social sciences, social services or community development and five years of experience working with newcomers and refugee youth, women, seniors and their families, and community networking. Directly related experience augmented with a diploma in Social Sciences, Human Services, Community Development or a related field is preferred.

To do this job satisfactorily, the role requires a willingness and ability to work flexible hours, including weekdays, evenings, and weekends. A **valid Class 5 drivers' license, insured and registered reliable vehicle** access are also essential for fulfilling the responsibilities of this position.
