**Job Opportunity - Cat Health Care Assistant**

For over 20 years, Vancouver Orphan Kitten Rescue Association (VOKRA) has been living our mission to end cat overpopulation and homelessness, and you can be part of that We’re looking for an Animal Health Care Assistant to join our team of enthusiastic, compassionate staff and volunteers. This position is a full time contract, working at our Operations Centre in East Vancouver.

**Role Impact**

This position will work under the direction of the Rescue Centre Manager to ensure the health and well-being of cats being cared for at VOKRA’s Operations Centre. This includes attending to basic needs and assisting with cats that require medications, treatments, or behavior modification as they become ready for a foster home placement. This individual will work directly with the Medical Team and support staff, as well as other volunteers, and facilitate communication with our foster network. This is a great opportunity to build your skills and gain experience in a rescue environment while having a positive impact on the cats in our care.

**Key Responsibilities**
- Assisting the Medical Team and support staff in providing compassionate, high-quality medical care to our cats and kittens at the Operations Centre and in foster homes under the guidance of senior Medical Team members and according to our approved protocols.
- Assisting in the intake of and recordkeeping for cats and kittens at our Operations Centre.
- Assessing and monitoring the health and well being of cats and kittens being cared for at the Operations Centre, and informing the Medical Team of any new concerns or needs.
- Providing education, support, and guidance for fosters regarding the medical and behavior needs of cats and kittens in their care.
- Assisting with training medical volunteers, ensuring all volunteers understand processes and work to support VOKRA’s mission, values, and operating procedures.
- Filling in during medical, cat care, or reception shifts when volunteers are unavailable.
- High School diploma or equivalent required. Additional education/certification in a related field is an asset.
- Experience working in a veterinary or animal rescue setting is an asset.
- Ability to identify and prioritize urgent medical situations and respond appropriately.
- Must be comfortable handling and working around fractious/scared/aggressive cats.
- Ability to remain calm and steady in high-stress situations.
- Adaptability in a fast paced work environment.
- Detail-oriented with proven organizational abilities.
- Experience with database and project management platforms is an asset. VOKRA utilizes ShelterLuv (medical database) and Trello (project management).
- Demonstrated high-quality verbal, written, and listening skills.
- Highly motivated self-starter who takes initiative on tasks with mínimal supervision.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively and collaborate as part of a team.
- Commitment to supporting VOKRA’s philosophy, policies, programs, and protocols.
- Having a valid driver's license and a vehicle, plus a willingness to transport animals to/from Ops for immediate needs, would be an asset.
- Must be flexible for scheduling a regular day shift that may include weekdays, weekends, or statutory holidays to accommodate the intake centre's schedule of 10:00am - 6:00pm daily. Shifts are expected to be 8 hours in length, including an unpaid 30-minute meal break daily (total = 37.5 hours per week). Specific shift days and times to be determined.
