CALTRAX is a full-service independent railcar repair & maintenance company providing a full a wide range of railcar services in Canada. Caltrax currently operates three shops that include Calgary & Lethbridge, AB and Montreal, QC. We provide full-service tank and freight car cleaning, maintenance and repair, interior lining and exterior coatings. We also provide full tank car cleaning and mobile railcar repair operations across the Canada.

Reporting to the Director, this position will be responsible for creating and managing documentation related to the repair and maintenance of railcars. This role involves working closely with customers, mechanics and other staff to ensure that all repair activities are accurately recorded and that proper procedures are followed. The Railcar Repair Estimator is responsible for preparing, organizing, and managing detailed documentation for the repair and maintenance of railcars. This role ensures that all repair activities are accurately recorded, work orders are properly created, and all documentation complies with regulatory and company standards.

Responsibilities Include:
**Documentation Management**:

- Create, print from portals and maintain detailed work orders, work procedures, and customer maintenance logs.
- Document repair procedures, parts used, labor hours, and other relevant information.
- Ensure all documentation is accurate, complete, and compliant with company policies and industry regulations

**Work Order Processing**:

- Review and analyze repair requests to create clear and actionable work orders.
- Coordinate with repair technicians to gather necessary information and provide accurate descriptions of the required work.

**Communication**:

- Act as a liaison between the customers, repair shop and other departments, including operations, and quality assurance.
- Provide updates on repair status and any issues that may arise during the repair process.

**Compliance and Quality Assurance**:

- Ensure all repair and maintenance activities comply with relevant industry standards.
- Assist in audits and inspections to ensure compliance with internal and external standards.

**Record Keeping**:

- Maintain organized records of all repair and maintenance activities, including historical data for future reference.
- Generate reports on repair activities, costs, and performance metrics as required.

**System Management**:

- Utilize customer computer-based maintenance management systems (CMMS) to track and manage repair activities.
- Ensure that all data entered into the CMMS is accurate and up-to-date.

**Problem Solving**:

- Identify and address any discrepancies or issues in repair documentation.
- Work with repair technicians and other staff to resolve any challenges related to repair processes or documentation.

Requirements and Skills:
**Education**: High school diploma or equivalent.

**Experience**: Previous experience in a similar role within the rail industry or a mechanical/technical environment is preferred.

**Skills**:

- Strong organizational and record-keeping skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in computer-based maintenance management systems (CMMS) and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Understanding of railcar systems and repair procedures is a plus.

**Attributes**:

**Work Environment**:

- The role may require working in a repair shop environment with exposure to noise and mechanical equipment.
- Some travel to different locations or rail yards may be required.

- This position may require occasional overtime or on-call duties, depending on the needs of the railcar repair operation.

Pay: $25.60-$30.31 per hour
