Vancouver, Canada UBC Faculty of Forestry Full time

**Position Description**:

- UBC’s Vancouver campus is located on the traditional, ancestral, and unceded territories of the Coast Salish Peoples, including the territories of the xwməθkwəy̓əm (Musqueam), Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish), and Stó:lō and Səl̓ílwətaʔ/Selilwitulh (Tsleil
- Waututh) Nations._

The **Faculty of Forestry** at the UBC Vancouver campus is delighted to announce that we will be hiring several new faculty members to join the existing team at the new **Centre of Indigenous Land Stewardship (CILS)**. A number of different positions are available, including sessional lecturer, lecturer, tenure-track professor of teaching (all ranks), and tenure-track professor (all ranks). The lecturer positions may be full or part-time.

We will be hiring for two or three positions to start **July 1, 2024**, although an alternate start date can be negotiated. Further positions will be advertised as the program develops. These positions are available across the Faculty of Forestry: the appointments will be made in whichever is the most appropriate of the Departments of **Forest Resources Management**, **Forest and Conservation Sciences**, or **Wood Science**, depending on the expertise of the individuals. Applicants should demonstrate to the Search Committee their experience of working with or for Indigenous communities.

**About the Centre of Indigenous Land Stewardship**:
CILS aspires to be a global centre of excellence, bringing Indigenous Peoples’ knowledge and land ethics together with natural resource science and management. By openly sharing information and ideas, land stewardship systems will be built that are grounded in holistic land stewardship and earth-based community values.

Specific goals that this Centre is working to achieve include:

- providing high-quality land stewardship education that is grounded in earth-based land ethics and world views; and
- providing students and participants with the skills and abilities to participate in a job market that is increasingly looking for broader integrated land and resource stewardship skills

**About the Bachelor of Indigenous Land Stewardship (BILS) Program**:
Besides other responsibilities with CILS and Faculty of Forestry, a key role for all successful applicants will be to participate in delivering the new **Bachelor of Indigenous Land Stewardship (BILS) program**, commencing in September 2024. This is an interdisciplinary, four-year undergraduate program created to prepare students to build and operate comprehensive land stewardship systems that are grounded in Indigenous earth-based land ethics - systems that can operate in complex inter-governmental environments and foster our next generation of land stewards.

The program includes innovative and diverse courses in areas such as Indigenous ways of knowing, ecology, law and governance, economics, communication, business management, research and data management methods, and community capacity building.
