**Overview**:As a member of the maintenance team in the YW Kitchener-Waterloo (YWKW) Homelessness & Housing department, you will help to keep buildings owned by the YWKW at a well
- functioning level which meets or surpasses all relevant building codes, legislation, and regulations.

**Contributions & Impact**:
CARETAKING AND MAINTENANCE
- Carries out basic electrical, mechanical and plumbing repairs (unless a certified craftsman is required);
- e.g. unclogging toilets and drains, repairing flooring and wall tiles, replacing or repairing taps/sinks/pipes, replacing ballast, installing light fixtures/switches/wiring, tape and finish drywall, paint, re-key and repair locks/deadbolts/door-hinges, small carpentry repair.
- Assists the Property Manager in developing and updating preventative maintenance plans and procedures.
- Holds maintenance workshops for clients/tenants as required.
- Paints on an on-going basis as needed.
- Removes garbage, maintains garbage bins and compactor.
- Performs yard maintenance including mowing, watering, trimming hedges/trees/gardens. Snow and ice removal as required during the winter months.
- Picks-up and delivers in-kind donations from YWKW home office and other locations.
- Keeps the YWKW’s vehicle in good order and ensure regular servicing and repairs.

PURCHASING AND DEALING WITH OUTSIDE CONTRACTORS
- Under the direction of the Property Manager, requests quotations for major repairs and replacements, providing specifications for the job.
- Schedules outside repair workers; coordinates and inspects work when complete.

INSPECTION AND SAFETY
- Sits on the Joint Health and Safety Committee at the YW Emergency Shelter and conducts inspections of the workplace. Together with the Management Representative, conducts monthly inspections and
- Advise on preventive maintenance issues and major repairs or replacements.
- Fire Safety. Ensures all building requirements of the Fire Plans are inspected and reported as necessary.
- Conducts fire drills in accordance with the fire plans, resets alarms as necessary, ensures emergency exits are kept clear.
- Performs move in and out apartment unit inspections, annual apartment unit inspections in coordination with the Property Manager. Performs annual inspections of emergency shelter.
- WHMIS: ensures that all relevant material safety data sheets are available, up to date, distributed to users and that refill bottles are labeled appropriately.
- Checks on exit lights and emergency systems regularly.
- Ensures that all external inspectors carry out their contracts as scheduled.
- Fulfils other duties as reasonably assigned.

**Skills & Requirements**
- Maintenance and repair (medium) skills in plumbing, carpentry, painting, drywall repair, simple equipment and other types of facility care
- Thorough knowledge of the YW emergency procedures and all Fire Plans, general fire regulations and building codes.
- Ability to identify and remedy potential problems and hazards and respond appropriately
- Ability to provide specifications for tender
- Proficient problem-solving skills and communication skills to effectively communicate with staff, tenants and trades people
- Ability to write letters/memorandums for clients/tenants and other internal/external parties as required
- Valid Standard First Aid and CPR Level C and Up-to-date Vulnerable Sector Record Check
- WHMIS certification
- Valid driver’s license, clean driving record, and reliable transportation.
