We are looking for a motivated and engaged individual with previous optical experience (Quality Control/Edging/Tinting preferred) to join the Shamir team as a Lab Technician for a _full-time permanent role._
- **Reports To**:_

Departmental Quality Control Supervisor
- **Rotating shifts every 2 weeks**:_

Day shift: 7:00am to 3:30pm
- Monday to Friday, 40-44 hours per week;
Afternoon shift: 3:35pm to 12:00am
- Monday to Friday, 40-44 hours per week (Shift Premium).

Extended Healthcare (after 3 months of continuous employment), eligibility to enroll in employee shareholding plan, and discounts on prescription lenses. Shamir employees are eligible for Monthly production bonuses based on group performance after 3 months of service.
- **Job Summary**_
- **Duties and Responsibilities**:_
- Develops and conducts programs of inspection, sampling and analysis to maintain the company’s established quality standards.
- Operates the laboratory equipment using lenses, handheld instruments and chemicals.
- Attention to details with all measurements, tolerances, calculations, equipment settings, and defective products.
- Acts as an internal customer and helps improving quality of surfacing, coatings and other similar treatments.
- Initiates and conducts quality inspection tests; analyzes utilizing different techniques - visual inspection and usage of electronic lab equipment.
- Understands the mechanics of machinery to troubleshoot issues by working as a team with the machine, production manager, and maintenance manager.
- Reads and interprets work orders, follow instructions on printed work orders.
- Organizes incoming jobs by priority and records data of work orders, inspection - defect codes and reworks done in Priority and interpret results regularly.
- Takes the initiative to notice and follow-up on discrepancies, suggest improvement and ensures complete customer satisfaction.
- Complies with all the safety/regulatory requirements ensuring supplies are stored.
- Keeps management informed of potential safety opportunities.
- Assist in the development of improved lab standards, quality assurance, health and safety measures.
- Follows all HR and Health & Safety procedures and policies.
- Ensure that the work areas are kept clean and tidy.
- Ad hoc duties at a lower level or higher level of proficiency.
- **Qualifications**:_
- Detail oriented with positive professional work ethic.
- Familiarity with operating fine machinery.
- Knowledge of optical theory and lens production is an asset.
- Excellent communication skills while working in a team environment.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Conscious of all detail and quality standards.
- Conducive to change.
- Ability to work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
- **Education**:_
- Degree/Diploma in Quality Control, Manufacturing, or etc.
- Any relevant certifications relating to quality control and/or manufacturing.
- **Experience**:_
- 2 or more years experience in quality & process operations in production organizations, preferably “made to order” manufacturing.
- Knowledge of optical theory and lens production is an asset.
- Familiarity with operating fine machinery.
- Ability to think creatively, logically, and independently to solve problems encountered in manufacturing and quality.
- Full working knowledge quality management with demonstrated success.
- Manufacturing principles and concepts.
- Detail oriented and positive work ethic.
- Ability to work well under pressure.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- **Communication**:_
- Excellent effective written and verbal communication skills (English) in a fast-paced team environment.
- **Physical Demands**:_
- Standing or sitting long periods of time.
- No heavy lifting, pushing, or pulling.
- **Mental Demands**:_
- Ability to multitask, prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
- Ability to work independently with mínimal supervision.
