**KEY FUNCTION**:
Work with a multidisciplinary Health Care Professional team on various research/program evaluation projects. Support equipment commissioning and quality assurance, research and educational activities within the Department of Medical Physics.

**REPORTING**:
Under the general direction of the Chief Physicist and Manager, Northeast Cancer Centre.

**DUTIES**:

- Assist with research (data collection, analysis etc.), conduct literature reviews, and prepare presentations.
- Assist with dosimetric measurements with therapeutic radiation beams.
- Assist with computerized data analysis and the preparation of scientific reports, radiation safety reports and teaching manuals.
- Determine and align improvement projects with HSN’s Strategic Plan; monitor and adjust to achieve goal outcomes.
- Participate in education and training specific to current, relevant federal and provincial health and safety legislation, standards and guidelines.
- Educate and promote health, safety and wellness in the work place.
- Represent the department or program on various committees and in meetings as required.
- Perform other duties as required.

**QUALIFICATIONS**

**EDUCATION AND TRAINING**:

- To be eligible an applicant must be either:

- an undergraduate student enrolled in a physics program or a program of a related discipline at a recognized university who is returning to undergraduate studies in the term following the studentship or
- Studentships are awarded on the basis of:

- academic achievement (minimum GPA of 3.30, as calculated according to percentage to GPA conversion scheme of the applicant’s university)
- demonstrated interest in the field of medical physics.
- Ministry of Labour “Worker Health and Safety Ministry of Labour “Worker Health and Safety Awareness in 4 Steps” training certificate is required.

**EXPERIENCE**:

- Recent and relevant experience working in a health sciences related field is preferred.

**KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES**:

- Demonstrated excellent research skills.
- Demonstrated ability to complete literature searches and work within Reference Manager.
- Demonstrated ability to compile and analyse data; compile and write reports.
- Demonstrated ability to utilize various databases and software systems.
- Demonstrated training, experience or utilization of lean methodology for process improvement.
- Demonstrated ability to independently identify issues, plan improvements, measure success and continue improvement.
- Demonstrated excellent computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office software (e.g. Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook) and patient information systems.
- Demonstrated superior interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Demonstrated strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize workload.
- Demonstrated discretion and maturity when handling confidential information.
- Demonstrated commitment to the safety of co-workers and patients.

- Partial funding for this position is provided through the Harold E. Johns Summer Studentship Program administered by Ontario Health - Cancer Care Ontario. On completion of their project, each student is required to submit a scientific report (up to ten pages plus Figures) outlining his/her studentship experience. The report will be forwarded to the Coordinator Medical Physics Education Programs, Division of Education, Ontario Health - Cancer Care Ontario.
