**What do you offer?**

The Language Assessor is responsible for administering the Canadian Language Benchmark Assessment (CLBA), the Canadian Language Benchmark Placement Test (CLBPT), the Enhanced Language Training Placement Assessment (ELTPA), the Canadian Language Benchmark Literacy Assessment (CLBLA), and/or other related assessment tools. The Assessor will also refer newcomers to appropriate Language classes. The Assessor will work as a team member contributing to quality service delivery and achievement of program goals while establishing and nurturing an effective working relationship with the Language program providers (both federally and provincially funded), the Association, and the community.

This is a contract until January 27, 2025.

**Some of the tasks of this position include**:

- Administering the CLBA, CLBPT, ELTPA, CLBLA, and/or other related assessment tools according to the principles and procedures outlined in the CET and the CCLB training, the YMCA, IRCC/MLITSD policies and standards at the Language Assessment Centre.
- Successfully completing a week-long training in the use of the CLBA, additional two-day training in the use of the CLBLA, and additional two-day training in the use of the CLBPT.
- Referring clients to the most appropriate training provider, based on language benchmarks and individual client needs.

**Education**
- Post-secondary education or equivalent in a related field

**Language**
- Fluent in English, oral and written
- Other languages are an asset

**Experience, Skills and Abilities**
- Successfully completed one-year ESL program recognized by TESL Canada with a minimum of a 100-hour practicum or post-secondary degree in linguistics, modern languages, English OR holds a provincial teaching certificate in English heritage languages or ESL
- Meets the Assessor criteria set forth by the Centre for Education and Training to become a CLBA Assessor
- Strong computer skills in word processing, spreadsheets, and database programs
- Demonstrates cultural sensitivity, interviewing skills, documentation skills, and decision-making skills
- Must have a working knowledge of immigrant services available in Ottawa
- Ability to maintain accurate, up-to-date client files and documentat
