Sunset Community Centre is seeking dynamic and organized youth day camp staff to implement and lead Youth Day Camp (ages 12-16). Youth Day Camp Leaders report to Youth Day Camp Supervisor and Summer Day Camp Project Manager. This camp will take place at Sunset Community Centre. Every week, the camp offers exciting and engaging activities revolving around youth values: leadership development, independence, friendship, and diversity. Camp runs from July 2-August 30, Monday to Friday, 9:30 am-4:00 pm. This program will take place at Sunset Community Centre.

**Responsibilities**
- Plan and deliver age appropriate and meaningful leadership development workshops in a safe, educational, fun and engaging environment, with the support from Youth Day Camp Supervisor and Summer Day Camp Project Manager
- Be a positive role model and facilitate the growth of youth through encouragement, guidance, and leadership
- Effectively deal with diverse group dynamics of participants
- Manage budgets, prepare reports, ensuring waiver forms are complete
- Liaise with parents/guardians of Youth Day Camp participants
- Communicate with community centre staff and follow organizational procedures
- Ensure health and safety procedures are always practiced
- Prepare activity equipment and supplies for daily operation

**Qualifications & Experience**
- Experience working in a day camp setting as leader or volunteer
- Experience working with youth ages 12‐16 in recreational setting, including working with vulnerable children and youth
- Field of study involves recreation, education, CYCC, social work or related fields
- Excellent communication, leadership, conflict resolution, problem‐solving, and interpersonal skills
- Valid First Aid and CPR is mandatory; valid BC Driver’s License and second language is an asset
- Ability to work independently and within a team, and can make appropriate decisions as needed
- Clearance of a Police Record Check

**To be eligible (Canada Summer Jobs), youth must**:

- be between 15 and 30 years of age at the beginning of the employment period;
- be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the _Immigration and Refugee Protection Act _for the duration of the employment;
- have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.

**Work Schedule**: 40 hours per week. 8-hour shifts ranging between 8:15 am‐5:15 pm, Monday to Friday from July until August, including July 1, 2024. Part‐time planning hours in June will be required, which include scheduled City Wide Day Camp trainings and workshops (hours to be negotiated).

**Job Types**: Full-time, Seasonal
Contract length: 2 months

Pay: $19.50-$21.50 per hour

Flexible Language Requirement:

- French not required

Schedule:

- Monday to Friday
- Weekends as needed

Work Location: In person
