The Federal Bridge Corporation Limited (FBCL) is a Crown corporation responsible for overseeing the Canadian federal interests in four international bridge crossings between Canada and the United States. Its mandate is to provide the highest level of stewardship so that the international bridges and associated structures are safe and efficient for users. FBCL owns, manages and operates international bridges and associated structures in Sault Ste. Marie, Point Edward, Lansdowne (Thousand Islands) and Cornwall, Ontario.
1 - 8 month co-op or 2 - 4 month co-op / summer positions
**Summary**:
Reporting to the Manager, Asset Planning the GIS and Big Data student will provide support for the ongoing upkeep and expansion of the “Asset Management System” software ecosystem. The Asset Management System software ecosystem is comprised of the Enterprise Asset Management (EAM) system, Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS), Geographical Information System (GIS), data management tools and interfaces, and middleware software.
**Duties and Responsibilities**:
GIS Data Management and Expansion - 50%
- Compiling, interpreting, and digitizing the asset and attribute data from available engineering drawings, field surveys, and historical documents;
- Collecting asset data from field surveys and ingesting into ArcGIS using digital collection tools such as mobile Field Maps app and GPS equipment;
- Incorporating diverse contextual data objects such as aerial photography, engineering drawings, images, legal plans, and other available resource files in into ArcGIS following best practices;
- Organizing the asset data using a methodical approach of verification, gap analysis, cleansing, manipulation and transformation, attribution and association, and geo-referencing and geo-processing into structured geo-databases and metadata in ArcGIS;
- Updating and validating asset attribute tables, domains, data dictionaries, symbology, asset reference designations, linkages to other business data, layer structures, and queries; and
- Maintaining corporate geo-database and user portals, including publishing feature classes and data, in order to ensure data consistency and integrity.

“Big Data” Support - 20%
- Documenting and mapping existing asset data flows in terms of structured processes;
- Developing, configuring, testing and refining the transformation and integration of datasets between the Asset Management software ecosystem platforms;
- Undertaking the batch ETL (extract, transform, load) process of data across different “Asset Management” ecosystem platforms;
- Developing data aggregation and decision support tools, such as process diagrams, scripts and dashboards, to support different internal departments; and
- In coordination with IT department, implementing process automation and data management best practices.

GIS and CMMS Tools Support - 10%
- Assisting to provide ongoing technical support to maintain the system integrity of and reliable access to the GIS and CMMS software and to ensure that the data, algorithms, and reporting functions are working properly and effectively;
- Assisting to provide “help desk” customer service support for GIS and CMMS users internally and externally with FBCL operating partners;
- Assisting to develop and deliver training to the users of Asset Management System software;
- Creating and maintaining queries, reports, forms, templates and dashboards within GIS and CMMS software environments to meet the needs of users; and
- Documenting and benchmarking the current GIS, CMMS and asset management software system performance.

Project Initiatives Support - 20%
- Supporting assigned project tasks including condition assessments, lifecycle analysis, development of O&M manuals, capital and operating budget forecasting and the deployment of Asset Management ecosystem software solutions;
- Assisting inter-departmental project initiatives to expand Asset Management capabilities; and
- Building positive and productive working relationships with co-workers through exemplary customer service and active listening.

**Essential Qualifications**:
**Education**:

- Minimum: successful completion of one year and currently enrolled to continue in a diploma or undergraduate program from a recognized college or university in GIS with a Civil Engineering and/or Environmental Design and/or Urban Planning focus;
- Enrolment in Degree or Diploma programs in the co-op stream preferred;
- ESRI GIS Certifications, or demonstrated progress tracking towards certifications would be considered an asset.

**Experience**:

- Minimum: completed first year educational hands-on experience or completed co-op placement experience in GIS preferably working with physical asset inventories such as municipal services, utilities, buildings and structures using ESRI ArcGIS tools;
- Hands-on experience in engineering CAD and/or surveying would be considered an asset.
