**Professional Skills Coordinator**:
**Primary Purpose**: Career Services empowers students to achieve career success by leading, guiding, and partnering to advance career education at the University of Saskatchewan. The primary purpose of this position is to provide effective leadership in student skill development, including curriculum development, instruction, and campus outreach, with a particular emphasis on graduate student and postdoctoral researcher skill development. Additionally, the incumbent will contribute to advancing career education and USask Student Competencies institutionally, analyzing the needs of units, departments, and groups, while developing, connecting and/or contributing to programming and initiatives in these areas.
This position reports to the Director, Career Services. Graduate Teaching Assistant(s) would report to the Professional Skills Coordinator.
**Nature of Work**: The Professional Skills Coordinator demonstrates a high level of independent, discretionary decision-making and judgment. The work is complex requiring creativity, close attention to detail and quality of work, and the need to collaborate within the unit and across the institution whilst balancing stakeholder interests. The ability to facilitate active learning at a level appropriate to undergraduate, graduate, or postdoctoral experience; and to advance projects in alignment with institutional goals and objectives is essential. The Professional Skills Coordinator establishes and maintains a high level of professional relationships amongst a wide stakeholder group that supports collaboration and achievement of outcomes. A particular focus will be on establishing and nurturing partnerships with the College of Graduate and Post-Doctoral Studies (CGPS) to support the skill development of graduate students and postdoctoral researchers.
**Accountabilities**:
Skill Development and Career Education
- Leads the development, delivery, and assessment (with feedback) of skill development and career
- education curricula that align with Career Services’ high-level outcomes and/or CGPS priorities. Facilitates active learning in online and in-person Career Services’ workshops and presentations delivered to students through campus partnerships as well as all sections of the Graduate Professional Skills (GPS) Certificate courses (GPS 974.0 and 984.0).
- Collaborates with the Career Services’ Events and Communication Specialist and the CGPS Communications Coordinator to develop and maintain appropriate marketing, social media promotions, and web content related to their areas of oversight.
- Contributes to the Co-Curricular Record (CCR) and USask Student Competencies Working Groups to determine and develop clear strategic plans, mutually beneficial partnerships, innovative programming, sound implementation plans, and strong outcome and assessment strategies.
Campus Partnerships and Collaboration
- Oversees Career Services’ Campus Partnerships strategy ensuring consistent communication, regular and meaningful needs assessment, and development of clear indicators of success.
- Liaises with referred campus contacts to develop programming that ensures both Career Services’ and unit/partner interests and needs are identified, and that appropriate curricula and student supports are delivered.
- Develops and maintains strong working relationships with various key stakeholder groups including faculty, college-based career and student service professionals, professional associations, and student groups.
- Participates in unit and university-level working groups/committees as identified to be appropriate.
General
- Ensures that programming aligns with, and advances intended institutional, college, unit, and student outcomes.
- Contributes to conversations and initiatives to create and foster an institutional culture that values, supports and promotes skill development, career education and student career success.
- Ensures work is completed within established deadlines, by defining goals, aligning all required resources, effectively setting work priorities, collaborating with others as needed, and assessing outcomes.
- Ensures that all measurement and reporting requirements are completed in a timely manner and submitted according to program requirements.
- Undertakes personal and professional development activities to advance expertise in skill development and career education.
- Supports equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) within Career Services and advances and champions EDI in all programming.
- Assists with the day-to-day front-line interactions when necessary.
- Undertakes other activities, as may be delegated from time to time, in support of Career Services and Teaching, Learning and Student Experience (TLSE) goals and priorities.
