Job Summary
The Can-SOLVE CKD Network is Canada's largest-ever kidney research initiative. It is a national partnership of patients, researchers, health care providers, and policy-makers working to transform treatment and care for Canadians affected by chronic kidney disease. The network is changing the culture of kidney research by coordinating and conducting innovative projects shaped by patients' experiences and priorities. It is also creating resources and national infrastructure that enhance Canada's ability to lead innovative kidney health research.
Chronic kidney disease disproportionately affects Indigenous communities and those living in rural and remote locations. Can-SOLVE CKD is working to address these disparities with the guidance of the Indigenous Peoples' Engagement and Research Council and Indigenous Initiatives Team. Members of the council include patients, families, caregivers, Knowledge Keepers, health professionals and policy makers. The Indigenous Initiatives Team includes the Cultural Competency Manager, Indigenous Liaison Manager, and Communications Coordinator.
The Manager, Indigenous Initiatives is responsible for the project management of the activities of the Indigenous Initiatives Team (IIT). She/He /They also holds primary responsibility managing the work of the Indigenous Peoples' Engagement and Research Council (IPERC). In addition, this role has responsibility for co-leading the development of the network's Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Accessibility (IDEA) strategy.
Organizational Status
Functional reporting is to the Network Executive Director.
Work Performed
Develop and implement strategies that enhance knowledge mobilization, increase awareness of Indigenous Initiatives of the network and advance the IPERC strategic plan.
Responsible for the planning, development, and implementation of the IPERC Strategic Plan, goals, and objectives and corresponding work plans.
Coordinate the development and implementation of the network's EDI Strategy, integrating decolonization and Indigenization principles, and leading the IDEA advisory group and working groups.
Manage a variety of one-time and ongoing initiatives resulting from advancing the IPERC Strategic Plan
Manage the activities of the Indigenous Peoples' Engagement and Research Council. Work with the Council Co-chairs to plan, facilitate and support council meetings, ensuring Indigenous voices are reflected throughout the network.
Collaborate with network members to ensure the inclusion of Indigenous ways of knowing and being into network activities, including planning appropriate Indigenous ceremonies.
Manage requests of the Indigenous Initiatives Team and IPERC, such as requests for consultations, advice and for letters of support. Co
- facilitate interviews, focus groups and community consultations and prepares reports for council. Build and maintains collaborative relationships with trainees, investigators, leadership, community representatives, Indigenous health organizations and SPOR entities.
Drafts presentation materials (e.g., slide decks, abstract, posters) and collaborates in the recruitment and onboarding of new volunteer members to IPERC.
Develop partnerships and facilitate communication with stakeholders; including, project leads, funding partners, policy makers, and Indigenous organizations.
Collaborate with Diabetes Action Canada (DAC) Indigenous Peoples' Circle and other organizations in the identification of new initiatives based on shared interests.
