**Positive Peer Navigator**

The AIDS Network is a registered charitable organization and offers services to the 1.5 million people living in the communities of Hamilton, Halton, Haldimand, Norfolk and Brant. Since 1986, The AIDS Network has been the primary voice for HIV/AIDS prevention, education, and support.

We have an opening on our team to fill under the Community Action Fund project for the Public Health Agency of Canada.

The Positive Peer Navigator is a full time position that is responsible for developing and implementing initiatives to enhance peer engagement and to provide direct outreach to individuals who may not be connected to existing services and supports.

Positive Peer Navigators help to reduce the social isolation and stigma experienced by many people who are living with or at increased risk of acquiring HIV or HCV co-infection and outreach to those who are not currently engaged in care. This position also works with service providers to build capacity to better support people impacted by HIV.

This position supports program activities throughout Hamilton, Halton, Haldimand, Norfolk and Brant.

Primary Responsibilities
- Work together with other staff to provide education and information to the larger community.
- Ensure ongoing support to service users by maintaining regular contact.
- Help service users develop strategies to maintain or improve their overall health.
- Make appropriate referrals.
- Attend appointments with service users when requested.
- Maintain confidential and accurate files.
- Comply with agency policies and procedures.
- Plan and implement peer engagement activities and education opportunities for people living with HIV.

Qualifications & Skills
- Direct experience working with marginalized and vulnerable members of our community.
- Have a strong knowledge of community resources in Halton, Hamilton, Haldimand, Norfolk, and Brant.
- A deep understanding of stigma associated with substance use and related issues.
- Demonstrated use of harm reduction philosophy and anti-racism anti-oppression practice.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and written and oral communication skills.
- Demonstrated problem solving and advocacy skills.
- Demonstrated knowledge of boundary setting with individuals served.

**WHAT WE OFFER**:
This is a full-time, permanent (35 hours/week) position with The AIDS Network. We offer a competitive compensation package, including comprehensive benefit package and salary range of $50,000-$52,000.
