**Relief Cook**:
**(12 Month Contract)**:

- (Part-time/Casual)_

**Position Description**: A 12-month contract, part-time casual Relief Cook is required to cover absences, vacation and support Kitchen operations for the Community Dining and Senior Day Program. The Relief Cook provides a nutritious lunch meal to a group of older adults (group size varies, up to 50 people).

**Rate of pay**: $20.20/hr

**Primary work locations**: Waterloo Memorial Recreation Complex - Community Pavilion

**Hours of work**:Casual hours (typically weekdays, 8:00AM-2:00PM) to cover vacations and other absences of regular staff. Hours and schedules will vary depending on operational requirements.

**Accountabilities**:

- Coordinate the preparation of the lunch meal and supervise volunteers in table setting, food preparation, handling and storage, serving and clean up
- Food preparation and clean-up based on set menu
- Perform all aspects of volunteer management related to the Dining Program
- Maintains a clean, safe, sanitary and organized work area
- Ensures food deliveries are accurate and properly stored
- Consistently produces quality meals by adhering to specifications and standards
- Responds promptly to customer inquiries and requests and works to resolve customer concerns and complaints in an effective manner
- Other related duties as assigned

**Required Qualifications**:

- Experience planning and preparing meals for large groups of people (50 people or more) in a commercial kitchen
- Food Handlers certification required; Understands and ensures compliance with safe food handling procedures
- Knowledge of Canada’s Food Guide, Public Health Act, healthy nutrition and special diets
- Keep current on nutritional issues and special dietary requirements/modifications
- Excellent communication skills with ability to respond professionally to client needs
- Strong organization skills and the ability to act independently as required, exercising good judgment
- Experience working with and supporting volunteers
- Demonstrated knowledge of safe operating and maintenance procedures for all kitchen equipment
- Excellent interpersonal skills and able to demonstrate compassion and sensitivity to the needs of an older adult population
- Support the values and mission of the division
- Ability to perform the physical duties of the position in a safe manner, including lifting, standing, walking, and bending for the entire shift duration
- Current Standard First Aid and CPR-C with AED certification or willingness to obtain
- A satisfactory police records and Vulnerable Sector Check will be required as a condition of hire
- Red Seal cooking certification or equivalent certification is considered an asset
