**The salary range for this position is**:
**Recruitment range: $72,242- $79,650** starting salary determined by the PEA Collective Agreement.

**Performance range: starting salary to max of $93,951** is available through annual performance increases.
- Job Summary**Mandate**:
The Digital Accessibility Officer plays a vital role in accelerating UVic’s digital accessibility transformation. This role researches complex problems and creates new processes to solve them. It analyzes digital technology for barriers and coordinates testing for software and services. It develops plain language communications, training, and resources for University Systems and its clients. This change-agent role will coordinate work on digital accessibility initiatives across University Systems. This position will manage accessibility-related projects. It will maintain University Systems websites and provide accessible communications support to leadership. It will provide digital communications support to the UVic Accessibility Committee.

**Objectives**:

- Create an accessibility resource hub with technical support information for campus support teams.
- Work with campus partners and Systems leaders to design and implement departmental process changes to mitigate client impact. These solutions will map existing procedures, break down silos and unify fragmented process gaps between units and departments to create simple, streamlined results.
- Advise Systems project teams on strategies to minimize client impact for service launches and service changes, including disabled clients.
- Accountable for quality assurance of support resources on University Systems websites.
- Create plain-language communication strategies for different client groups and manage complex IT related communications issues to ensure students, staff, faculty and community members of all abilities can use UVic’s IT services.
- Maintain University Systems websites on Cascade and SharePoint Online used for internal and external communication.

This position reports to the Director of Digital Learning Environment & Support for administrative purposes. It supports the University Systems Digital Accessibility Acceleration Program through the office of the Associate Vice President University Systems and Chief Information Officer.
- Job RequirementsThis position requires a level of education, training, and experience equivalent to an **undergraduate degree in technical writing, English, or other communications related field**, plus **5 years** of working across a large partner group to provide support in relevant large public sector organization and **2 years' experience** focusing on accessibility. An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered. **Priority will be given to applicants with lived experience with a disability or with advocating for people with disabilities.**

Knowledge, skills, and abilities include:
**Required**
- Experience working in IT services for higher education or another large public organization.
- Expertise in plain language writing that meets WCAG2.2 AA standards.
- Comfortable using business analysis skills and workflow tools like Team Dynamics to identify and prioritize client experiences that can be improved and to increase efficiency in business processes.
- Working knowledge of legal guidelines, regulations, and policies governing the provision of services to persons with disabilities in a post-secondary environment. Especially legislation such as EN 301 549, standards such as WCAG 2.2AA, associated provincial regulations and UVic policies. Maintain an awareness of the rapidly changing regulatory environment.
- Familiarity with customer support processes in a large organization, technical procurement processes, and key client areas.
