This is a full-time, permanent position in the Human Resources and Payroll Department.

Under the supervision and direction of the Payroll Manager, the Payroll Specialist is responsible for processing employee payroll for the Winnipeg School Division; verifying all payroll information; ensuring accuracy; transmitting completed payroll via the Internet; processing benefit plan enrollments, changes, terminations and answering benefit plan queries, and other various duties as required.

Responsibilities may include but are not limited to:

- Updates and verifies payroll transactions and ensuring an accurate and timely pay deposit
- Calculates salary adjustments, increments and vacation pay adjustments
- Reviews and completes various forms i.e. Record of Employment and Employment Insurance requests
- Reviews and processes TD1s in accordance to the employer’s responsibilities
- Balances all payrolls and transmits payroll including recalls and processes void payments
- Ensures appropriate benefit deductions are taken and arrears and credits are calculated

Qualifications:

- Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) Certificate required
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in a payroll-related role
- Experience and training in payroll and accounting procedures
- Proficiency at an intermediate level in Microsoft Office Word and Excel
- Knowledge of Division policies, procedures and collective agreements is an asset
- Ability to work under time pressures and tight deadlines
- Demonstrated inter-personal skills with all levels of staff
- Committed to customer service excellence and team oriented
- Typing speed of 45 wpm is required
