QUALIFICATIONS

**Education**:

- Completion of a Diploma or equivalent Certificates in the related irrigation trade.
- Valid Class “G” Driver’s License.

**Experience**:

- Two years of demonstrated experience and knowledge of design, operation, repair and installation of irrigation systems in landscape construction; including management and instruction; good communication and interpersonal skills; ability to deal with the public using tact and courtesy; record keeping skills.
- Ability to work independently.
- Ability to perform the physical requirements of the position and strong mechanical aptitude and experience.
- Knowledge and experience with an extensive range of horticultural equipment, tools, tractors, and associated implements related to irrigation systems.
- Extensive knowledge of industrial and horticultural safety practices and the Occupational Health & Safety Act and Regulations.
- Must have specific knowledge of irrigation equipment and systems.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Operates and oversees maintenance/records for, irrigation equipment for all maintenance activities.
- Provides services required for the routine maintenance of irrigation such as minor repairs and installations.
- Installs irrigation systems with the use of pipes, wires, valves, and works in conjunction with Supervisor and when necessary the NPC Engineering department on large repairs/installations.
- Winterizes all Botanical Gardens irrigation systems including potable water and raw water sources.
- Operates and maintains existing irrigation systems ordering parts and supplies within approved budgets, participates in the designing and installations of new irrigation systems and/or additions and upgrades as required.
- Maintains records and storage of irrigation tools/equipment, and supplies (and recommends equipment or specialty tools to budget/purchase based on research and need).
- Assists the School of Horticulture students with watering as needed.
- Troubleshooting issues that arise with irrigation system and communicating with Supervisor, as necessary.
- Complies with all applicable legislation, related policies, procedures and Occupational Health and Safety Act.
- Must be able to physically work in an outdoor environment in all weather conditions during all seasons. Must be willing and able to work overtime on short notice and to perform shift work and standby as required and scheduled to fulfill the requirements of a seven-day operation
