**St. Joe’s Women’s Centre (SJWC)**

**JOB TITLE**: Part-time Client Advocate & Support Worker
**One year contract position - with the possibility of renewal**

**HOURS**: 20 Hours per week, Monday: 9:30am - 5:30pm, Wednesday: 9:30am - 5:30pm,
Thursday: 9:00 am - 1:00pm (some flexibility available)

**RATE OF PAY**:$26. 00 per hour, 4% in lieu of vacation/sick days

**WORKING RELATIONSHIPS**:

- Reports to: Director

**RESPONSIBILITIES**:
(1) Provision of Direct Psycho-Social Support to Clients
- Provide positive initial contact with all new clients, establish rapport, and assessment of client service needs.
- Provide the appropriate crisis intervention/conflict resolution services.
- Connect clients with appropriate internal and community resources.

(2) Provision of Community Services to Clients
- Liaise with Outreach Workers in the community.
- Gather information and build a strong knowledge base of community resources.
- Ensure that appropriate services are provided to all clients.
- Advocate on behalf of clients
- Participate in advocacy and coordination committees about services available, gaps in services, and issues affecting the population served.
- Promote participation of clients and community in activities designed to educate, advocate and/or empower.
- Participate in SJWC evaluation processes.
- Prepare and maintain all necessary documentation and statistics related to

SJWC programs and activities on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis.

(3) Social Activity Coordination
- Support Program Coordinators in coordinating, implementing, and facilitating programs and events.

▪ Meet the operational and material needs of each program through budgeting, shopping, research and arrangement of programs.
- Supervise and support any programs offered by outside individuals or organizations.▪ Review program outlines and materials, co-facilitating as needed.Participate in and represent the Centre in fundraising events and networking opportunities.

Help organize, facilitate, and participate in fundraising initiatives.

(4) Facility Maintenance
- Support Program Coordinators in managing the inventory system to store, monitor and track agency supplies.
- Perform general upkeep and maintenance duties.

**Perform other related duties as assigned.**

**QUALIFICATIONS**:

- Bachelor of Social Work or equivalent in education and training. Mature students in relevant programs will be considered.
- Two years pertinent experience in direct service, crisis intervention, and supportive counselling.
- Demonstrated commitment to and knowledge of a community-based model of intervention and health equity principles.
- Knowledge of social services delivery in Ottawa.
- Excellent assessment skills.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Strong public speaking and community engagement skills.
- Ability to multitask.
- Demonstrated commitment to an anti-racist/anti-oppression approach.
- Ability to work well in a team environment.
- Ability to assess and set appropriate professional boundaries.

**Languages**:

- Ability to communicate fluently in English, spoken and written.
- Ability to communicate fluently in French, spoken and written, is an asset.
- Knowledge of other languages is considered an asset.

**Computer Competencies**:

- Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office suite of products
- Familiarity with Data Management Systems
- Clinical note taking and documentation.
