**PURPOSE OF JOB**:
The Lead Microbiology Technician assists in the supervision of day-to-day activities within the laboratory unit/group/area/department, performing laboratory analyses and tests to diagnose various pet and other animal illnesses, injuries and diseases in support of veterinarian animal treatment. Assists in supervising staff, training personnel and evaluating results. Contributes to the development of operating policies and procedures.

**Shift**: Monday - Friday 9:00am - 5:30pm, weekends on rotation.

**ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to satisfactorily perform each essential function. Assists in the supervision of department staff, monitoring activities and evaluating performance. Provides coaching and guidance to staff and oversees staff training and development. Provides input to department policies and procedures.
Assists in leading work activities of the lab unit/group/area/department, planning and organizing work, providing for adequate staffing and resources and maintaining work on schedule so that ongoing customer satisfaction is maintained.
Contributes to maintenance of department diagnostic equipment and other technical resources.
Handles rechecks and verifications within department.
Meets daily production requirements.
Resolve pending list.
Reports any technical QA/QC problems to the Supervisor.
Ensure that monthly Tech and Aide audits are performed and documented.
Maintain organization of storage refrigerator.
Maintain and ensure all equipment is operational.
Meet daily TAT production requirements.
Perform duties of the supervisor in their absence.
Reads, understands and follows applicable Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's), including safety and quality procedures. Maintains clean and organized work area. Restocks supplies as needed.
May be asked to participate in enterprise initiatives, special projects, and other duties as assigned.

**EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE**:
Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent combination of education and work experience required, preferably in
Science-related field.
