Studio.89 is a non-profit social enterprise located in Mississauga. We operate a fair trade cafe to support our community hub. Our mandate is to encourage community dialogue, interculturalism, artistic expression, and conscious consumerism while focusing on youth leadership development. In all that we do, we aim to benefit humans, animals, and the planet.

Studio.89 is seeking new board members to help us achieve our vision as we work towards a socially just and sustainable world through youth leadership development. Board members serve a minimum two year term, and may be eligible for re-election. We are a registered non-profit organization.

**Responsibilities of the Board of Directors**
- Evaluate and approve the mission, values, strategies, and major goals/outcomes, and hold the management accountable for overseeing the operating plan based on these policies
- Monitor the performance of the organization relative to the achievement of the goals/outcomes within the executive parameters
- Maintain and constantly improve all ongoing policies of the organization
- Select, fairly compensate, nurture, evaluate annually, and if necessary, terminate management, who functions as the Board’s agent
- Ensure financial solvency and integrity through policies and behavior
- Require periodic financial and other external audits to ensure compliance with non-profit law and industry best practices
- Evaluate and constantly improve board performance as the governing body and set expectations for board members’ involvement as volunteers
- Actively participate on committees to further assist the organization in performing its programs and carrying out its mission

**Responsibilities of Board Members**
- Be an active participant on theStudio.89 Board of Directors to fulfill the Board’s responsibilities outlined above
- Chair and/or participate on one or more of the following board committees: Operations Committee, Programming and Impact Committee, Fundraising and Financial Planning Committee
- Attend and actively participate in all board meetings (quarterly) and committee meetings (every month)
- Be an active ambassador for Umano, building relationships with prospective donors, current donors, volunteers, and strategic partners

**Qualifications - must have**:

- High passion for the mission, embodying holistic empathy
- Experience working for or with non-profits and/or social enterprises
- Experience working for collaboration with others through committee work
- Strong network with broad sphere of influence

**Qualifications - good to have**:

- Non-profit board experience

Expertise in one or more of the following:

- Accounting
- Experience working for or with grassroots organizations
- Fundraising
- Grant-making
- Human resources
- Impact management / program evaluation
- Marketing
- Non-profit laws, governance, and compliance

**Application process**:
Applications will be reviewed by the HR Sub-Committee of the Operations Committee, and will be assessed based on the organization’s needs, factoring in diversity of members and diversity of skills. Selected applicants will be invited to meet with the HR Committee and the Board President to discuss their qualifications, interests, and board requirements. Selected applicants will have the opportunity to review the organization’s bylaws and Board of Directors Manual.

The HR Committee will recommend nominee(s) to a board and/or committee position, and the Board will vote on the nomination(s). For a nominee to be accepted, there must be a two-thirds majority vote.

**Job Type**: Fixed term contract
Contract length: 24 months
