The District School Board of Niagara operates 79 elementary schools and 20 secondary schools in the 12 municipalities of the Niagara Region. We are proud to serve over 36,000 students from JK to Grade 12 each year.
Under the direction of the school Principal, the function of this position is to provide library technical support services for students at the High School. The successful applicant will hold the following qualifications:
must hold a Library and Information Technician diploma from a recognized Community College (CAAT) or demonstrate experiential equivalence;
have a minimum of one (1) to (2) years’ experience working with students/children in a school or public library;
the ability to work under mínimal supervision, to organize time efficiently, and to work well with a variety of people;
familiarity with library processes and the secondary school environment;
understanding of the cataloguing and inventory processes;
excellent verbal and written communication skills and sound judgment; and
ability to plan work, multi-task and prioritize.
**Typical duties will include, but are not limited to**:
supporting the delivery of curriculum and the development of information literacy by helping library patrons locate and use relevant print and electronic resources;
maintaining a physical collection by shelving materials, shelf-reading for shelf order;
facilitating book exchanges, literacy initiatives, readers advisory;
providing orientation and training to students and staff as well as providing library services and literacy activities within the school through web pages, social media and newsletters;
maintaining the library budget and selecting new materials based on Board guidelines and the needs of the school community, as well as communicating with school administration on priorities;
producing overdue notices to account for all library materials;
developing school library collections considering the needs of the school and operating within the parameters set out in Board policies;
adding copies to the local database and circulating library materials using the automated library system;
maintaining the Learning Commons and AV equipment collection, including mobile technology that is housed in the Learning Commons, and providing basic set-up and troubleshooting;
maintaining bibliographic records using reports and undertaking regular inventories of the library collection as outlined in Board policies;
supporting an appropriate learning environment in the library;
participating in professional development;
providing learning opportunities through the Learning Commons such as anime club, chess club, etc.;
all other library related duties as assigned by the school Principal.
