**Position Purpose**

Reporting to the Manager of Catering & Food Services Training Program (FSTP) the Food Truck Driver & Cook is responsible for driving the food truck into vulnerable communities and for preparing the meals that will be served out of the truck in these communities. He/she is expected to operate the Food Truck vehicle in a safe manner at all times, obeying all rules of the road, and follow all appropriate company policies and procedures. He/she must adhere to sanitation practices and health and safety requirements. The Food Truck Driver & Cook will have a “What Ever It Takes” attitude with the people in the communities by providing them with professional, consistent, reliable, service while in that community.

**Major Responsibilities**

Food Truck Driver
- Drive the truck into assigned vulnerable communities
- Maintain cleanliness of food truck interior and exterior and all the equipment
- Refuel the food truck as required using The Ottawa Mission’s gas credit card
- Maintain food truck usage / mileage logs
- Provide excellent customer service
- Professional representation of The Ottawa Mission through responsible driving and appearance
- Proper handling and accurate completion of all necessary paperwork related to daily responsibilities
- Adhere to all road safety requirements at all times

Cook
- Preparation of all food made within the food truck
- Have knowledge of all food truck kitchen equipment and tools
- Receive food services and other deliveries, overseeing condition and handling of incoming goods
- Sweep and mop food truck floor as needed
- Clean and sanitize food truck kitchen appliances, fridges, stoves and other appliances or equipment
- Sanitize and polish food truck kitchen
- Maintain an atmosphere of courtesy and respect towards clients, staff, FSTP trainees and volunteers
- Follow daily instructions or seek guidance from Chef & Manager or Catering & FSTP
- Assigning and instructing volunteers to complete appropriate tasks
- Other related duties as required and/or assigned by the Manage

**Other Requirements**

**Education**
- High school diploma
- Red Seal considered an asset

**Experience**
- 2 - 3 years’ experience as a cook
- Experience working with Homeless and Vulnerable populations

**Qualifications**
- Valid Driver’s License with a clean driver’s abstract (Must be able to provide a copy of abstract)
- Excellent driving skills
- HACCP, WHMIS and City of Ottawa Food Handlers Certification essential
- Must possess basic mathematical skills to understand recipes, measurements, requisition amounts and portion sizes.
- Proven ability to demonstrate culinary techniques, i.e. cutting, cooking principles, safety and sanitation
- Ability to prepare meal alternatives in a nutritious manner following the Canada Food Guide
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Good oral and written communication skills
- Ability to multi-task
- Ability to work in a very fast paced environment
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
- Must be a self-starter with a sense of urgency and the ability to work with mínimal supervision
- Flexibility in work hours, including early mornings
- Bilingualism (English/French) considered an asset

**Working conditions**
- High degree of physical activity involving: walking, standing, sitting, climbing stairs, bending, lifting, driving
- Ability to stand for long periods of time
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
- Ability to maintain alertness while driving
- Must be comfortable working in a challenging environment that has the potential for confrontation and/or exposure to violence
