Independent Direct Support Provider

Direct Support Providers support individuals with developmental and/or physical disabilities, including autism, and promote active living in their home and out in the community while providing caregiver relief. Independent Direct Support Providers registered with the Support Provider Database are connected with families looking for support.
- Note: Independent Direct Support Providers_ _on the Support Provider Database_ _are not employees of the Children's Community Network and are considered _**self-employed**_._

**Key Responsibilities**:

- Provide safe, stimulating, and recreational support in the home and/or in the community
- Provide care and supervision according to the individual’s needs
- Provide respite/support services as requested by the parent/guardian
- Be punctual, reliable, and respectful of the family
- Network with community groups, facilitate inclusion, and act as a positive role model
- Maintain communication with the Respite Resource Coordinator

**Requirements**:

- Ability and willingness to work with persons with disabilities
- Experience providing care and support to persons with disabilities is an asset
- Effective communication skills with both verbal and non-verbal populations
- Commitment to providing quality life experiences in home and/or in the community
- Police Vulnerable Sector Check (Level 3 Criminal Record Check)
- Completion of the Direct Support Provider Orientation Session
- First Aid and CPR is an asset

**Hours**:

- Hours are variable (days, evening, weekends, overnights, relief, summer)
- Hours are negotiated between the provider and the family that they are supporting

**Rate of Pay**:

- Rate of pay varies and is dependent on the needs of the child and the level of support required
- Rate of pay is negotiated between the provider and the family that they are supporting
