**Department: Emergency and Protection Services**

**Reporting to: Corporate Director of Infrastructure Services**

**Major Responsibilities**:

- Collaborates on development and manages the Northwood Emergency Preparedness and Response system and ensures that the key services can be maintained during an emergency or other service interruption for regional Northwood group of companies and managed divisions
- Northwood Chief Fire Marshal
- Prepares, executes, and maintains all aspects of incident and emergency response, evacuation training, and contingency planning.
- Ensures that Northwood’s Emergency Preparedness and Response system is developed, implemented, maintained and exercised to meet all requirements (e.g. legislation, safety codes, Department of Health and Wellness licensing requirements, accreditation standards, etc.)
- Assist and Training of all staff on safety awareness training programs.
- Ensure compliance with provincial and national care facilities standard.
- Maintain relationships with local law enforcement, fire and emergency personnel.
- Responds to emergencies including bomb threats, fire alarms, and others following emergency response procedures.
- Provides safety orientation to contractors/ construction workers.
- Collaborates on and manages assigned operational projects in Infrastructure Dept.

**Tasks**:

- Keeps informed of activities or changes that could affect the likelihood of an emergency
- Researches and makes recommendations regarding best practices in emergency preparation
- Reviews responses to emergency drills to facilitate continuous quality improvement
- Chairs or participates on various working groups pertaining to Emergency Preparedness (internally and externally)
- Ensures emergency response training and monitoring are in place to meet required standards
- Responsible for ensuring that third parties (e.g. contractors) comply with safety regulations
- Advises departments on emergency management planning and coordinates interdepartmental activity
- Develops and maintains the Northwood Emergency Management Plan Manual
- Ensures that the Emergency Management Fan-out/Recall Call Lists are up to date; Conducts Fan-out exercises regularly as required
- Attends Emergency Preparedness meetings and reports outcomes and recommendations
- Develops and delivers Emergency Response training programs for staff, residents and volunteers
- Develops and manages the Northwood Business Continuity Plan to ensure that key services can be maintained during an emergency or service interruption
- Ensures that emergency response plans are developed, implemented, maintained and exercised to meet licensing and accreditation standards
- Acts as the Northwood’s liaison to government Emergency Preparedness agencies
- Prepares and arranges safety exhibits and promotional material
- Provides leadership in times of disaster; reviews weather information and communicates as required
- Performs other related duties as required

**Qualifications**:

- Minimal 5 years of operational experience in managing emergency services, and related services
- Minimal 5 years experience preparing emergency response, business continuity or operational plans.
- Previous experience in conducting investigations
- Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
- Experience reading and interpreting government legislation, policies and standards
- Strong analytical, critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently without constant guidance.
- Able to communicate effectively, in writing and verbally, to a wide range of stakeholders.
- Emergency management, critical incident stress management, risk management and business resilience experience.
- .Ability to travel locally, as per requirements
- Possession of a valid NS Driver’s license is required with own means of transportation

**Hours of Work**: 80 hours bi-weekly (8-hour shifts)

**Salary**: As per the Northwood scale
