Currently, Bissell Centre is looking for an individual wanting to join the **Community Space** Team. Are you ready to be our **Casual Community Space Worker **and make an impact in our community?

**ABOUT THE ROLE**

The Community Support Worker works with adults, who are accessing the Community Space. The position is responsible for providing a safe and supportive environment that allows participants to access essential supports and basic needs services such as showers, laundry, clothing and meals.

**NOTE: This is a casual role with a starting wage of $21.00-22.00 per hour.**

**WHAT IS THE ROLE**

**Duties and Responsibilities**

**Program Delivery**
- Help to create a welcoming environment
- Ensure that each station has sufficient materials to run: IE Shower items and laundry soap.
- Monitor activities in the Community Space, provide de-escalating support as needed.
- Provide individual support, crisis intervention and advocacy to community members as needed.
- Assist Community Members to access basic needs services.
- Provide information referrals to outside agencies as needed.
- Provide information referrals to other Bissell departments as needed. This could include but is not limited to: housing, StartingPoint, Financial Empowerment and Mental Health.
- Assist with overdose response and other medical emergencies as they arise.
- Assist with other program activities and events as required.

**WHAT YOU BRING TO THE ROLE**

**Qualifications**
- Relevant employment experience
- Diploma/ degree in Social Work or equivalent is an asset
- Grade 12 High School Diploma
- Ability to practice/ work from a harm reduction lens
- Knowledge of Indigenous cultural resources, ceremonies, and protocols is an asset.
- Familiarity with issues of poverty, homelessness and Edmonton’s urban core.
- Strong written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.

**Working Conditions**

This position works closely with community participants who are experiencing complex life situations. As such, this position requires a calm and empathetic demeanor with the ability to de-escalate conflict and intense situations with clear and effective communication methods.

Some evening and weekend work is required.

- Naloxone Kit Training
- WHMIS Training
- First Aid & CPR/AED Training

The above-noted training must be completed during the first three months of employment or as agreed upon by the supervisor.
