Youth Day Camp Manager

**Work Week**:Up to 40 hours per week; Monday to Friday, July 4-August 25 (Week off: August 7-11)

**Time**:9:00 AM to 5:00 PM **Contract Commitments**:7 weeks of day camp & additional training and prep dates (TBC) **Mandatory Training (Dates in June TBC)**:

- Worksite Orientation
- Vancouver Citywide Day Camp Manager Training
- Waterfront Kayak Instructor Training
- Additional program planning and preparation shifts (Flexible, TBC)

**Rate of Pay**:

- $22.00/hour + 4% in lieu of vacation and stat holidays
- Additional $290 Transportation Allowance will be given at the completion of contract

**Qualifications**:

- Experience working with youth ages 11-15 years of age in a recreational or educational program setting
- Knowledge of a wide variety of age appropriate activities for youth in the areas of sports, arts and outdoor recreation
- Valid First Aid and CPR certification (or the ability to obtain certification before start date)
- Demonstrates ability to navigate emergencies, unusual incidents and behavioural challenges
- Experience/certification in kayaking is an asset
- Minimum first year college or university education in a related field is desirable
- Strong leadership, administration, planning, problem-solving and communication skills

**Under the direction of the Youth Leader, the Day Camp Project Manager has the following duties and responsibilities**:

- Recruit, train, supervise and evaluate the Day Camp Leader and any volunteers
- Promote day camp programs within the community
- Provide direction and clarity for staff and volunteers, encourage input and strong communication, and provide feedback to participants, day camp leader, and Youth Leader
- Facilitate program planning by administering age-appropriate programming, create weekly/monthly schedules, conduct registration follow-up, distribute and reconcile program funds, purchase and identify supply and equipment needs, complete activity bookings, and monitor staff hours
- Complete budget management, distribution and reconciliation of petty cash funds
- Actively ensure safety of children, staff, and volunteers through following safety guidelines, communicating risk management procedures, participating in program out-trips and administering first aid when needed
- Liaise and communicate with parents and/or guardians who have questions/concerns regarding the Day Camp programs and work with the Youth Leader to resolve any issues
- Assist with and/or develop special events
- Conduct weekly debriefs with staff team and provide a mid-summer feedback/evaluation meeting
- Prepare program evaluations and a final program report, staff evaluation and ensure day camp leader and any volunteers are contributing toward camp

**Terms/Conditions of Employment**:
In compliance with the Canada Summer Jobs Grant guidelines, all applicants must:

- Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of employment
- Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment
- Be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations
- Satisfy the requirements of a Police Information Check vulnerable sectors search prior to the program star
