The Taber Food Bank Society (TFB) is hiring for one Temporary Summer Student Position of a Food Service Helper.
**Position Summary**: Primary duties for the Food Service Helper Summer Student Position include assistance of client services staff, participation in The Vegetable Garden initiative, coordination and participation of special events, and support of overall food bank operations.

**Requirement**: _To meet the eligibility requirements for the Canada Summer Jobs grant, applicants must:_
- _be between 15 - 30 years of age at the beginning of the employment period;_
- _be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment; _and
- _have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations._

**Food Service Helper**
**Date of Employment**: Approx. June 17th to August 30th, 2024
**Expected Wages**: $15.00/hour
**Hours of Work**: 35 hours/week; hours may vary by day and includes some evenings and weekends, including during Cornstock and Cornfest.

**Qualifications**:

- Communication skills - both written and verbal, to interact with staff and volunteers, clients, donors, and the general public with confidence.
- Valid Class 5 driver’s license.
- Gardening/Horticultural Interest - garden maintenance
- Heavy lifting is required on a regular basis.
- Organizational skills - reliable and able to set and meet deadlines.
- Demonstrate respect and consideration of others.
- Ability to work in cold environments as necessary.
- Be able to deal with unpredictable situations.
- Inventory/Record Keeping Skills - track and record weights of incoming and outgoing food and non-food items
- Recommended: Valid First Aid Certificate and/or Food Handler Certification

**Primary Duties**:

- Learn about and enhance the operations of the food bank
- Coordinate and organize ancillary food bank items - food sorting, stocking shelves
- Client interaction to fulfill needs
- Support and assist with Vegetable Garden Initiative - recruit volunteers, participate in initiative, receive and sort produce, prepare for distribution
- Digital input as required
- Event planning and support
- Support to client services and administrative staff
- Act as part of the team and assist where needed
- Pick up donations using the food bank van as required
- Additional duties as required

**Job Type**: Seasonal
Contract length: 10 weeks

Pay: $15.00 per hour

Expected hours: 35 per week
