Toronto, Canada Canadian Partnership Against Cancer Full time

**Overview**:
The **Strategic Partnerships Division** leads engagement of partners in Canada’s health system and broader cancer community who are key to implementing practice and policy changes that deliver on the priorities of the _2019-2029 Canadian Strategy for Cancer Control_. The division works with the Partnership’s program teams and system partners to develop work plans, monitor progress, and regularly assess new and evolving work to ensure it aligns with the eight priorities of the Strategy.

**Overview of Role**:
The **Officer, Board and Government Relations** reports to the Manager, Board and Government Relations to support the CEO’s Board accountabilities and external engagement priorities. This includes supporting the strategic and operational management of Board-related activities and executive engagement of high stakes government and health system partners. Demonstrated ability to support an executive team, approach projects with an enterprise view, work at a strategic and operational level, build relationships and collaborate vertically and horizontally in an organization, as well as consider implications of broader federal, provincial and territorial policy and political directions on organizational priorities are key success factors for the role. **Core Responsibilities and Activities**:
**Board support (60-70%)**:

- Board and Board committee meeting planning
- Contribute to preparations for and project management of Board and Board committee meetings.
- Draft and contribute to the development and distribution of meeting materials and Board communications, including the quarterly CEO report to the Board, governance documentation and strategic updates from functional areas across the organization.
- Contribute to the coordination of meeting logistics.
- Board governance
- Contribute to Board governance related activities, such as updating governance materials and conducting the annual Board evaluation.
- Keep apprised of relevant changes in legislation, and evolving governance best practice and thought leadership, and contribute to efforts to reflect these as appropriate in governance materials and practices.
- Support the implementation of the Board’s diversity, equity and inclusion, and reconciliation action plans.
- Board orientation, mentoring and learning and development
- Support the coordination of Board orientation, mentoring and learning and development activities, including development of materials in consultation with functional areas across the organization.

**Government relations and policy analysis (30-40%)**:

- Support team priorities related to coordinating and preparing for external engagement activities involving the executive leadership team, such as outreach to federal, provincial and territorial government officials and executive partners in the health and cancer care domains, including collaborating with teams across the organization to develop relevant materials.
- Support team priorities related to monitoring and preparing analysis of federal, provincial, and territorial policy and political developments relevant to the Partnership’s priorities, including risks, opportunities and potential impact.
- Support the Manager’s accountabilities related to government relations and stakeholder engagement.

**Special projects (up to 10%)**:

- Contributes to special projects as required and requested by the Manager, in support of organizational priorities, accountability reporting to the Partnership’s Funder (Health Canada).

**Competencies**:

**Qualifications**:

- Undergraduate degree or combination of comparable education and experience working in the not-for-profit sector, as well as knowledge of Board governance practices and executive stakeholder engagement.
