Qualifications:
Essential:

- Post-secondary degree in social sciences, business or public administration or a related field; a combination of related education and/or experience may be considered.
- Demonstrated experience to leverage opportunities for innovation, find creative solutions to issues, and successfully manage change.
- Management experience with responsibility for operational, financial and human resource management.
- Experience translating strategic priorities into clear operational and business plans, and experience with strategic performance management and measurement systems (e.g. Key Performance Indicators, Balanced Scorecards).
- Experience providing leadership and direction in the design and implementation of new legislation, policies and programs.
- Political acumen demonstrated through experience providing strategic advice to senior leaders on complex topics and sensitive issues.
- Excellent interpersonal skills to build and maintain positive working relationships and partnerships with diverse internal and external stakeholders.
- Proven ability as a leader with a commitment to create, support and sustain a diverse environment that enables staff to achieve results and to develop for the future.

**Duties**:
As a member of the department’s management team, the Director is responsible to lead and manage policy, strategic initiatives, and special projects in the Disability Policy Team in the Policy, Program and Legislation Division Disability Policy Branch, provide advice and support to the Executive Director, and Assistant Deputy Minister.

The Disability Policy Branch within the Department of Families has responsibility to provide leadership as it relates to new policy, legislation, strategic planning, short term initiatives, funding and support service development for adults living with an intellectual disability, as well as children with disabilities and their families. This includes administration of the Community Living disABILITY Services (CLDS) and Children’s disABILITY Services programs.

The Branch also provides policy and legislative support for The Adults Living with an Intellectual Disability Act (ALIDA), the investigations/protection mandate, and the Adult Abuse Registry.

This position is responsible for developing and maintaining strong partnerships with the branches responsible for direct service delivery to facilitate collaborative partnerships, strong accountability, and long term sustainability of the programs. The Director of Policy and Strategic Initiatives is accountable for the development of policy, programs and new initiatives and corresponding direction to ensure long term sustainability of the services. This could include participating in budget preparation, management, and reporting; standards development and quality assurance; policy development, program analysis and evaluation. The position is also responsible for analysis, negotiation, and co-ordination of intra and interdepartmental, intergovernmental and intersectoral agreements and initiatives.
