**Title**: Medical Office Assistant, Primary Care
**Salary**: $57,888 - $68,742 - $72,360 per year (pay range explained below)
**Contract**: This position is a 2-year term with the FNHA. When the term position ends with the FNHA, it is intended that this position will be offered as a permanent role with the es zúmin’ Primary Care Clinic.
**Hours**: Standard hours - 37.5 Hours per Week
**Location**: Mount Currie, BC, with frequent travel to the Southern Stl'atl'imx communities, which are up to 3 hours away by road.

**FNPCI Initiative**
The First Nations-led Primary Care Initiative (FNPCI) aims to improve access to primary health-care services for First Nations people across BC in a way that is culturally safe and closer to home. The FNPCI is part of the province’s primary care strategy, which is integrating team-based care in communities throughout B.C. and changing the way primary care is delivered with the creation of primary care networks in partnership with the Regional Health Authorities.

In order to meet the health and wellness needs of First Nations people, it is very important that primary care is culturally safe and culturally informed where Indigenous ways of knowing and being are woven into services.

One of the main objectives of the FNPCI is to develop new First Nations Primary Health Care Centres in rural and urban locations across the province. The centres will provide access to culturally safe, quality primary health care services for First Nations people and their families. The aim is for clients to feel safe, welcomed, valued, respected and heard when they access care services at one of these centres.

**About the centre**
The es zúmin’ Primary Care Centre, is a BC First Nations-led Primary Care initiative in the FNHA Southern Stl’atl’imx sub-region, that aims to improve access to primary health care services and traditional wellness services for First Nations people in a way that is culturally safe and closer to home. This region extends 150 km from N’Quatqua in the north to Tipella (Xa’xtsa/Douglas Nation) in the south. This sub-region includes five First Nations communities: the Líl?wat, N’Quatqua, Samahquam, Skatin and Xa’xtsa (or Douglas) Nations.

**About the role**
As Medical Office Assistant, you'll play a crucial role in streamlining the centre’s daily operations providing outstanding administrative support skills. You'll be at the heart of the coordination of our staff and resources via the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system. Joining our collaborative health care team means that you’ll contribute to providing culturally safe, trauma-informed, and culturally appropriate care, ensuring that every client and their family receives the highest standard of service.

**Responsibilities**
- Actively deepening expertise in cultural safety and humility, integrating trauma-informed approaches into daily tasks to enhance care environment.
- Greeting and creating a welcoming atmosphere for clients, serving as a friendly first point of contact.
- Efficiently scheduling clients, assessing their initial needs, and coordinating care pathways to ensure accurate and timely health service delivery.
- Managing client registrations and records, ensuring that all documentation, from medical reports to chart notes, is accurately recorded and preserved.
- Strengthening relationships with clients and colleagues, understanding the unique challenges faced by rural and remote communities, and working towards enhancing access to health services.

**About you**

**Education**
- Graduation from a Medical Office Assistant Certificate Program from an accredited Community College.
- 3-5 years’ experience in a medical practice with knowledge in encounter coding, data and administrative processes, HR management principles and practices, and current scheduling practices, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

**Occupational Certification**
- Current valid BC Driver's License

**Experience**
- Experience working with a First Nations Health Service Organization, or experience working with First Nations people and communities is an asset

**Knowledge**
- Demonstrated knowledge of MSP Billing Practices and Fee Codes, medical issues and terminology, in particular terminology related to substance use and mental health
- De-escalation and supportive communication
- Must have proven ability to maintain professional conduct and confidentiality in the care of patients
