Accounting Supervisor

Brookdale Treeland Nurseries Limited (BTN) is one of the largest and most respected growers of garden plants in Canada. We are proud to service garden retailers, landscape contractors, municipalities, and golf courses throughout Canada and the United States.

We service our customers from four farms in Ontario and one in British Columbia with a total land base of over 800 acres. BTN specializes in building full-service programs in the following categories: Flowering Shrubs, Evergreens, Broadleaf Evergreens, Holiday Greens, Vines, Perennials, Trees, Small Fruits and Tropicals. BTN is not limited to supplying only these programs to our customers; Using a wide network of over 300 growers, we are able to bring products from around the world, keeping up to date with trends and consumer demands to build programs for our retail and wholesale partners.

**About You**

You are a driven, focused individual with attention to detail. Ideally, you are a current CPA student or recent CPA graduate looking for education and experience in a full-cycle accounting department with supervisory responsibility. You are eager to work with a small, dedicated group of colleagues in a casual environment, and you are interested in the horticultural industry either as a casual gardener or experienced green thumb.

**About The Position**

Reporting directly tot the Chief Financial Officer, the Accounting Supervisor will oversee functions in all aspects of accounting, including cash flow management, financial statement preparation, budgeting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, inventory and payroll. Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

- Prepare proposed weekly payment lists to Vendors for approval by senior management
- Process payments to vendors using various electronic methods (ACH/EFT/Interac/Wire)
- Prepare daily bank reconciliations for all operating accounts
- Prepare and file required government filings (HST, StatsCan, etc.)
- Oversee accounts payable and accounts receivable functions and provide direct support for staff in each departments
- Assist with the collection of key accounts receivable balances for large vendors
- Assist senior management with periodic month end, quarter end and year end closing statements, including compliance reporting to our banking partners
- Assist senior management with annual budgeting and periodic reforecasting
- Be the financial lead on semi-annual inventory counts, including variance analysis, correction, continuity and posting
- Assist farm locations with inventory management, analyzing entries for suitability
- Assist with overall accounting requirements related to inventory being valued in a standard cost environment

**Key Competencies**
- Intermediate to advanced understanding of Microsoft Office 365, especially Excel is a requirement
- Prior knowledge of, or experience with, SAP Business One and Electronic Data Interchange are beneficial but not required
