At NorQuest College, the Language Instruction for Newcomers to Canada (LINC) program fulfills the “we’ll meet you where you’re at” commitment to newcomer students by offering a wide variety of language/settlement/essential skills/work integrated learning programming, scheduling, and delivery modes as well as comprehensive student support options that meet the varied needs of our diverse newcomer student population, with the ultimate goal of helping them build social capital, and empower them to become self-sufficient, independent, and active members of the community and labour market. **HOW YOU'LL MAKE A DIFFERENCE**
- Model and promote practices that support the successful settlement process for newcomers from a wide variety of ethnic, cultural, and educational backgrounds to help them build social capital, and empower them to become self-sufficient, independent, and active members of the community and labour market.
- Create a vision for, and actively lead EDI/anti-racism/anti-oppressive/decolonization focused initiatives that will support newcomer students’ education and successful inclusion in the class, program, and college communities.
- Foster communication and encourage collaboration among many different college areas as well as the community for the purpose of the most effective service delivery to aid the settlement process.
- Work closely with our Settlement Studies program to explore new opportunities and support current initiatives for close collaboration with mutual benefit to all stakeholders.
- Organize culturally competent and inclusive presentations, fairs, and other events that provide meaningful information to address settlement needs of newcomers.
- Perform needs assessments to identify appropriate educational and career pathways and interventions, and to provide information and referrals to support newcomers with settlement needs.
- Support connecting newcomer students to community supports with emphasis on marginalized communities.
- Assist newcomers in successfully navigating life outside of the college and help them understand their civil rights and responsibilities in Canada.

**WHAT YOU BRING**
- A diploma or degree in settlement studies, social work, social sciences and humanities, or related discipline.
- 3+ years experience in the settlement or related fields.
- An understanding of equity, diversity, inclusion as well as anti-racism and anti-oppressive practices.
- Knowledge of Canada’s colonial history and its impact on Indigenous communities.
- Experience in or with Indigenous communities and the ability to speak Arabic, Somali, French, Spanish or Tigrinya is considered an asset.
- Experience and ability to communicate effectively with newcomer students of diverse ethnic, cultural, and educational backgrounds for whom English is an additional language.
- Strong knowledge of community resources related to assisting newcomers with a variety of needs.

**SALARY**:$2,047-$2,660 biweekly ($53,230-$69,156 annually) reflective upon what you bring, AKA your education and experience. This is a fulltime term position until August 29, 2024 with immediate access to our great benefits program.
