Food Market Coordinator

**Position Overview**: Chebucto Connections provides community members who are struggling with food insecurity a free bi-weekly produce pack that includes bread and eggs. During the summer months we are transitioning to a bi-weekly open community food market providing low cost, pay what you can produce. The Food Market Coordinator will play an important role in the start-up and running of the bi-weekly market.

This position is funded through Canada Summer Jobs and is open to individuals between 15-30 years old. The applicant must be a Canadian Citizen, permanent resident, or person on whom refugee protection has been conferred under the _Immigration and Refugee Protection Act_ and is legally entitled to work in Nova Scotia.

**Qualifications**:

- Experience working with community or social service organizations an asset
- Combination of education and experience
- Computer proficiency is required, particularly Excel
- Exceptional communication skills and ability to thoughtfully and effectively communicate with staff, volunteers and the public
- Knowledge of community and social service resources that support the community in accessing food support is an asset

**Demonstrated Skills**:

- Understanding of the strengths, capacities, challenges and barriers faced by those struggling with food insecurity
- Demonstrated ability to take initiative and work independently and in a team setting
- Clear written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work in a manner that preserves confidentiality, dignity and well-being
- Detail oriented with strong analytical and problem solving skills

**Job Duties**
- Assist with the planning and coordination of the bi-weekly Food Market
- Schedule and delegate responsibilities to Market volunteers
- Order produce from the Mobile Food Market
- Assist with Market set up and tear down
- Create and update price list on Square
- Manage Market Sales including end of day reconciliation
- Create and maintain relationships with outside businesses and organizations to deal with excess food from the Market
- Identify opportunities to be more efficient
- Create posters and other marketing material for upcoming events
- Administer surveys to other agencies and those accessing food support
- Set up workshops on how to eat healthy on a budget
- Support community members to help access use of community gardens
- Work independently and with staff to maintain security and clean up
- Maintain and implement organizational policies
